Fun fact: There is a song in which Taylor apologizes to an ex. From the Red Album. The name of the song is Back to December. Adding my voice to those encouraging you to either watch or react to the Long Pond Studio sessions. Taylor, Jack, and Aaron reflect on meaning of the songs and what they were trying to accomplish. Also, Kevin, I think you would like watching Jack on piano and guitar, and Aaron on guitar, base, etc. I love watching the three of them play together on each song.

I think it’s her not wanting people in her business (esp. bc it involves an affair) so she told her fans it was ~fantasy~ … in truth all songs are part reality, part fantasy, and part meaning the listener ascribes to it. I loved that part of the discussion about the meaning you can pull from something not written specifically for you and I’d add that this is actually T Swift’s superpower - she writes songs that so many people relate to

I didn't see this in other comments, but yes, the first section is the experience of a soldier in WWII. Her grandfather was in the battle of Guadalcanal. A couple of interesting musical bits - during a couple of instrumental interludes you hear a sort of soaring solitary horn. This is reminiscent of Taps, which is played at military funerals by a single horn. The sound at the very end is Taylor's heart beat on a heart monitor. Anyone that has spent a time with a very sick loved one has the sound of a heart monitor burned in their brain.

I did laugh when you said "please cry, I need it for the thumbnail" which was a good break in the action from the very emotional commentary. Also, you gotta watch the long pond sessions. It explains the background to almost all of the tracks and you will both likely cry.

Also, this was not her first project with Antonoff, they first worked together back at 2012/13 in a soundtrack for a movie, with the song "Sweeter than fiction", and they've been working together in every project ever since.

Folklore and Evermore are sister albums and my two favourites. Seeing your reaction to folklore you guys would LOVE Evermore!!! Definitely recommend checking it out and I’m sure we’d all love to see the reaction!!

After that, it's really up to you after that... do you want to listen in order to see her growth or by similar genres? After Evermore, I would do either Midnights 3AM Edition (dreamy synth pop), 1989 (pop bible), or Red, (country, pop, rock, little dubstep). Rep/Lover after. Speak Now (country pop/rock) and Fearless (country pop). Depends on you if you want to do TTPD somewhere in the middle of this or end with it. Make sure to listen to Taylor's versions (TV) and the vault songs!! There are two TV albums we're waiting on and that's Rep and Debut and we're hoping any day now lol so if you want, you could wait until those are released to listen.

From there you can go anywhere: it's important to keep in my mind though that folklore and evermore (and in my opinion the second part of the tortured poets department too) is what taylor is capable of but sometimes she chooses not to tackle because of different style choises in the albums, like in midnights or lover or 1989

Taylor spent most of her career writing about her own experiences and during the folklore set in Eras she mentions that folklore was all about getting out of her own mind (covid times) and writing creatively, making up characters and seeing what stories she could come up with. This produced the gold that is folklore and evermore. I hope you’ll do evermore, the sister album, next!

I can still remember the first time i heard it during the pandemic and ugh idk how else to explain it but it just brings me back to that feeling of hopelessness and sadness when I hear it. Taylor did such an amazing job with that song but it just hurts!! Anyways, loved your reaction to this (I literally screamed to my roommate that my fave reaction channel dropped a folklore reaction and that I had to get some rosé for when i watch) and hope to hear more Taylor in the future!! (Although I can already see Kevin's tears to Marjorie off Evermore and I want it but also don't know if I want him to be put through that pain 😅) (but still Evermore is my personal top contender for the next Taylor reaction) PS sorry for all the parentheses hahaha (like I said, I grabbed rosé)

Taylor live is really good. If you're interested, I can send you guys the full movie. I have it on Google Drive. Also, with The Tortured Poets Department, it's a double album. So the second part of the album (tracks 17 to 31) is called "The Tortured Poets Department The Anthology" and all the songs there have the folklore and evermore production so I think you guys will dig it.

Even after connor and kev come in he still feels the need to sound off. I've definitely had some takes about Taylor in the past that have been overly judgmental but I've totally seen the other side of things too and was simply saying this one wasn't for me (pretty politely). It will always ultimately come down to connor's choice for what makes the cut but everyone on patreon especially should get to voice their opinions if they aren't being a dick about it.

As a a Taylor fan I am biased, because I do feel people should separate her fans from her work, but to each his own. I do wanna explain to you the way swifties experience with non fans. Because most of the times the comments are really toxic against her and her music when all these people wanna do is shitting on Taylor without giving a chance. And they judge her based on nothing with real merit. Which makes the swifties always feel defensive which translates to attacking. I don't like when it happens because I believe to each his own, esp with music, where it's very subjective. But it is also annoying to see comments all the time shitting on Taylor just cause she's not he most famous artist in the world right now.

2024-10-10 18:28:05 +0000 UTCthis album got me into taylor swift during quarantine. i had only heard her singles before and was questioning why this had been grammy nominated for AOTY, so i gave it a listen and it genuinely changed my perspective of her forever. i am so happy about it. there was me before folklore and me after folklore, and i will never go back to who i was before . i am so happy that you did this album and i only hope u move onto evermore eventually because it’s my all time favorite taylor record. but i think it’s important to start her discography with folklore bc it introduces you to her songwriting and production style in such a taylor-way while also seeing a “new” side of her.

It’s on Disney+ and it’s Taylor, Jack & Aaron playing all of folklore live in Aaron’s studio cabin in upstate NY. They speak about the songs and song writing over wine in the yard between live songs.
