Pokemon: Mega Tactics - Chapter 1.1

Since you guys overwhelmingly voted that I should put up my stuff that never went anywhere as well, I'll throw this one up first.  And put more up over the next few days or weeks.

___________

The very second your alarm clock went off, your eyes snapped open. You turned in your bed and reached out to turn it off, and once you did, you let loose a great big yawn that transitioned into a wide smile.

'Today's the day.' you threw the covers off of you and hopped out of bed and made your way over to the desk with your computer on it where your clothes sat all neatly prepared. Your backpack, already prepared with everything you would need for the early parts of your journey sat on the floor beside the desk, next and sturdy, yet stylish pair of hiking boots, black with green laces. And atop your folded clothes, rested a gleaming, shiny pokeball freshly polished before you went to bed.

The pokeball of your dear friend, hatched from the egg that your uncle's Garchomp laid five years ago. You stroked the pokeball fondly, "We start out today buddy." you whispered, before going about your way and stripping out of your shorts and tank top into your travelling clothes.

A few minutes later you eyed yourself in the mirror Sturdy and stylish black boots that went three quarters of the way up to your knees, black comfortable cargo jeans and a double layered stylish black hoodie, the under layer and hood being green like your boot laces.

'It's a lot of black, but it looks alright.' you mused, running your hand through your short spiky brown hair as your own piercing brown, almost yellow eyes stared back at you. As expected of clothes bought from an expensive boutique in Lumiose City, the fashion capital of the world.

Turning away from the mirror, you grabbed your backpack and swung it over your shoulder and grabbed Gible's pokeball and attached it to your belt.

Then you left your room behind and made your way downstairs, it was time to pick your starter pokemon, get your pokedex and begin your journey.

You made your way downstairs, out of the living area of the building and into the main laboratory, you'd been actively staying with your uncle for the past year after all.

As you were making your way down the stairs, a loud yawn caught your attention and you looked over the bannister to see your uncle, Augustine Sycamore, the leading authority on Mega Evolution, a top student of the legendary Professor Samuel Oak and the Regional Professor of the Kalos Region walking through the main hall of the lab, carrying a steaming cup of and idly scratching his fingers through his messy black locks of hair.

He closed his mouth after yawning, smacking his lips and was just about to move into the research area of the lab, when he looked up and met your eyes. "Oh, Cobalt, up already?" he gave you a lazy, teasing smile, "Did the excitement get the better of you then? You usually don't get up for another three hours."

"I wanted to get started early," you shrugged, and as if to prove your point, instead of walking down the rest of the stairs, you turned and vaulted over the banister, dropping down the ten or so feet below you and landing beside your uncle, "Besides, I'll decide what to do first after I start, so the earlier the better right?"

"If you say so," the man shrugged and waved at you to follow him with his free hand, "C'mon then, I may as well let you pick what pokemon you want, though I suppose you already have the one you want in mind."

"Yeah, Charmander," you replied as you followed him, "After all, it's the only one you have a mega stone for."

"I suppose, and it will help me with my research should you form a close enough bond with Charmander to achieve mega evolution," Sycamore mused, "Do remember though, I only have the one key stone, you'll need to find your own out on your journey."

"Fine with me." you replied. Just getting a mega stone was a big enough help as it was considering how rare they were.

Moments later, you were led into your uncles main lab and he set his coffee down. He pulled a key from his lab coat pocket and inserted it into a safe on the desk beside his computer and a moment later, locked it again as he turned towards you, holding two small objects in his hand. One a shrunken pokeball, the other a tiny little glittering orange sphere.

You took them gratefully. "Alright, and here, this too," he reached into his pocket and pulled out a pokedex handing it to you, "Be sure to document any mega pokemon you come across thoroughly alright? I'll get all the data sent to me as you obtain it."

"Will do," you agreed, "I'm gonna head out now, meet Charmander and decide where I'm going."

Sycamore rolled his eyes, "So rushed aren't you?" he mused with a chuckle.

You scratched your cheek sheepishly, "I've been waiting for this day for years, cut me some slack eh?" you replied.

He pat you on the back before pushing you forward, "I'm just messing with you, go on, explore and have fun, I'll come watch you at the league when you win all eight badges." he said.

You smiled back, feel your chest pulse with warmth. Those that got good enough to get all eight badges and compete in the regional Pokemon League, were the best of the best, it usually took most years of work and effort to get good enough to even be good enough to get into the lower placements. So his belief that you could do it made you feel good.

"I will, see you later uncle!" you bid him goodbye and left the lab behind.

Once you reached outside of your uncles lab, you pulled out Charmander's pokeball and enlarged it, before sending it out. In a burst of bright light, the small bipedal, orange scaled and flame tailed lizard pokemon appeared before you.

Charmander looked up at you and smiled widely, "Char!" he raised one little clawed arm up at you in a happy greeting.

Crouching down, you rubbed the top of his head, "How you doing today buddy?" you asked, "I just got your pokeball from my uncle, you're officially my pokemon now."

One of the reasons you wanted to stay with your uncle fully the past year, and not just visit off and on for weekends and such, was because you wanted to learn all you could about pokemon before you started your journey, and where better than the regional laboratory? As such, you worked as your uncles assistant quite often. That meant, you spent quite a lot of time around the pokemon inside the lab, and there were a lot of them. It also meant, you tended to the starter pokemon quite a bit.

And you'd been dead set on this little guy ever since your uncle found the the mega stone, Charizardite.

So you'd spent time in advance getting to know him. It was a little unfair to Bulbasaur and Squirtle, the other two starters in his batch that arrived from the Kanto Region, but you'd have taken them if you could. But you had to prioritize Charmander when you uncle agreed to give you the Charizardite mega stone.

After all, you planned on becoming a trainer that specialized in pokemon that could mega evolve.

"Charmander char!" the little fire type cheered, jumping up and down before rushing forward and glomping your arm.

Laughing, you stood up, lifting him alongside you and setting him on your shoulder, being careful of his tail. "For now, it's me, you and Gible until we run into any other pokemon that we can catch that can mega evolve."

Charmander smiled wilder and flashed you a little thumbs up. You ruffled his head fondly.

"Alright, let's see where we'll head to first then," you mused, pulling your pokegear from your pocket and pulling up the list of pokemon known that could mega evolve, a compilation of pokemon that very few knew about, and you only did because you bugged your uncle into letting you know, "Right, Pidgeot huh? Pidgey can be caught practically everywhere, so we don't need to focus on that right now." you mused as you scrolled down the list. Though, you had to admit, a flying pokemon would be incredibly useful for scouting and finding pokemon over large areas.

'Hmm, there's quite a few bugs on here, Heracross, Beedrill, Scizor, Pinsir..' you mused. Santalune City wasn't far from Lumiose City, just a days walk, and not only was there a gym there, the Santalune Forest right beside the city was rife with bug type pokemon and grass type pokemon.

_______________

You decided in the end to head for Santalune City. Since it was early morning, there was a possibility if you made good time that you could make it there by time night fell and not have to camp out.

The possibility of getting your first gym badge and your hands on another pokemon capable of mega evolving just too great a temptation for you to pass up.

So you quickly made your way through Lumiose City towards the exit that led to Route 4 and from there to Santalune City and made your way through it.

The route was crisp and finely crafted into a large paved road that led away from the city, while the forest area was pathed outside the area of it, it was more or less, basically a straight shot towards Santalune City.

You'd walked the road dozens, if not hundreds of times before, and you and Gible liked to come out and challenge wild pokemon to battles to get experience in them, but somehow, it was like it was all shiny and new to you, now that you were a licensed pokemon trainer.

You kept Charmander out of his ball, letting him take in all the sights with you. Pokemon or not, the little guy was raised in contained environments, so it was all new to him, and he enjoyed it with a vibrant excitement, jumping off your shoulder here and there to go inspect whatever caught his eyes.

From berries on trees, large bushes, to even pokemon that passed by. He did get a little too exciteable with a few Ledyba, angering them into attacking him, but with your instructions, he made quirk work of them. A single full body blow with Flame Charge brought one down, and an Ember downed the other.

Charmander ended up quite disappointed that the fight ended so quickly and easily. As it turned out, he quite liked fighting despite that cheerful, eager and easily excited personality.

You were about two hours into your walk down Route 4 when something caught your eye though. A Pidgeotto cleaning its feathers while standing atop the branch of a tree you just passed below.

You turned and looked up at it, "Hmm, looks about average size from what I can see," you mused, reaching into your pocket and pulling out your pokedex to scan it and see what attacks it knew. This only worked on pokeballs linked to your pokedex under your ownership and wild pokemon, so it couldn't tell you what other trainers pokemon attacks were, but it was still really useful, "Gust, Quick Attack, Wing Attack and Mirror Move huh?"

It wasn't an incredibly good list of moves, but it was decent. 'Oh, it's male as well huh?' you noted on the information provided by the pokedex.

Pidgeotto stopped cleaning his feathers and looked down at you weirdly, eyeing the pokedex pointed up at it, "Geot?" it cocked its head to the side in askance.

"Oh sorry did I startle you? I was just checking what attacks you knew." you said, stowing your pokedex in your pocket again before tossing a wave up at the flying and normal type pokemon, "Hey, I'm Cobalt Sycamore, and this is Charmander." you jabbed your thumb at the little fire type reclining on your shoulder.

"Pidge." Pidgeotto looked at you weirdly still, but lifted a wing and greeted you back.

You grinned up at the bird pokemon, "So, as you can probably guess, I'm a pokemon trainer, and I'm on a journey to capture and raise pokemon that have the ability to mega evolve." you told it.

Pidgeotto looked utterly lost, cocking his head to the other side in confusion.

You laughed, "Well, it's not well known, but let me explain it to you," you said, "There are some fully evolved pokemon, that can temporarily evolve into an even higher stronger form, these are called mega evolved pokemon, and Pidgeot are one of the few pokemon capable of mega evolving."

Pidgeot's eyes widened a bit and the bird leaned forward, eyeing you in interest, "Pidgeo??"

"Yeah," you nodded, "That's why I was checking you out with my pokedex. How about it, you want to come with me? I'm planning on training all my pokemon to get stronger and battle so they can evolve and mega evolve."

Pidgeotto eyed you for a few moments, before shrugging his wings and hopping off the tree branch, gliding down to land in front of you, "Pidgeotto!" he held his wing out to you and gestured towards himself.

You grinned again, "Good to have you on board!" reaching into your pocket, you grabbed an empty shrunken pokeball, brought it out and enlarged it before tapping it gently to Pidgeotto's head.

It popped open and Pidgeotto was engulfed in red light before being sucked inside, the pokeball clicking shut a second later. the front of it glowed red and vibrated in your palm for a few moments, before releasing a loud 'ping' noise as Pidgeotto was successfully captured.

"Welcome to the team Pidgeotto, let's get along well kay?" you said to the pokeball and then held it up to Charmander, "Check it out buddy, my first ever capture of a pokemon!" you cheered, totally psyched.

"Char charmander!" Charmander threw his little clawed arms in the air and cheered alongside you.
