Added 2025-06-15 12:19:39 +0000 UTCFinally got through the labor of installing the shoreline and jungle. The hard part for me was conveying a sense of distance but while considering that tree canopy can sometimes absorb light and appear darker from above.
Another factor is the translucence of the canopy. It diffuses a very green light that can make the understory appear more saturated. A good analogy is appreciating the dark value of a tinted car window, but then a glimpse inside would show that interior to be well-illuminated.
Still need to install a water refraction, a bit more text, and something going on in the lower gazebo. After that, it’s all light/value/shade management. Some subtle modeling shading will happen, but the direct light will do most of that work.
I imagine the airplane on the right is the one shown in my first crossover fanart. The middle belongs to the pilot in the middle of the scene. Listening to old 1930s BBC radio programmes while building this up has been a pleasure.
