Stormy Mountain Sect Poll
Added 2022-03-04 20:13:29 +0000 UTCIn the third chapter, Marc will inherit a weapon from his father. What should he get?
Comments
Yup, family relic what the weapon y'all're voting on. the great grandfather was a strong cultivator and used x in defense of the kingdom. the grandfather did as well. His dad did too but never advanced super far on the cultivation path. He retired from service after thirty years to start a farm, met a girl, then ended up fighting a beast a full tier higher than him and his wife. With a sacrificial move, he mortally wounded it, allowing his wife to finish it off, but only by dying himself.
2022-03-07 05:08:05 +0000 UTCI'll definitely make someone use those in the story!
2022-03-07 05:02:17 +0000 UTCHe'll definitely have one of those eventually, or at least a technique that does that! Probably not an inherited weapon though.
2022-03-07 05:02:03 +0000 UTCa guandao/yanyuedao are basically the Chinese version of a glaive. They are very similar (sharp blade for slicing, only sorta stabbing, on the end of a long pole)
2022-03-07 05:01:26 +0000 UTCno female mc, but maybe a female friend who will use a staff and make all sorts of inappropriate jokes. the teenage love interest is a sword user, but I'm thinking of introducing a female character similar to Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender, just because she's awesome.
2022-03-07 04:58:50 +0000 UTCI love the thought of a chain extending with growth qi
2022-03-07 04:57:11 +0000 UTChe'll definitely have a bow as a wood cultivator! Probably not the inherited weapon, but just something he's been using.
2022-03-07 04:56:53 +0000 UTCThe beast core sale was more about getting rid of something they didn't have the power to hold. By trading it for tax relief, they made it so they didn't have to worry about the mayor or other noble power just taking their farm away by raising taxes so they couldn't pay. yup, they don't have a ton of money, especially because the dad has been dead for several years, and the mom is partially crippled (both unable to walk long distances/gets tired easily and walks with a limp and the xianxia definition where she cannot cultivate anymore). However, this is a family heirloom, something that they would only sell if the other alternative was starve to death, and they weren't quite there yet.
2022-03-07 04:52:48 +0000 UTCNeat idea! Take the typical xianxia focus on brawling and make it deadlier
2022-03-07 04:50:20 +0000 UTCMaybe if he was a scribe or something. Woulda been funny
2022-03-07 04:49:56 +0000 UTCI voted sword staff, but i think you would need to have a reason for the family to keep it vs selling it for money, maybe it's a family relic from a strong cultivator generations ago?(I picked it because it's not a common weapon I have seen in books and it sounds cool) Otherwise I think a bow would fit more with his families position.
2022-03-07 00:02:13 +0000 UTCI think a staff and or bow and staff together
Joe
2022-03-07 00:00:01 +0000 UTCI would love to see hu tou gou (double hook swords)... sandly they are not present event in chinese xianxia's.

2022-03-06 21:10:35 +0000 UTCBreak the femme Fatale cliché and give that boy a whip. It can be out of a magical vine that reacts to/accepts wood qi.

2022-03-05 14:52:00 +0000 UTCHow bought a Glaive?

2022-03-05 10:55:53 +0000 UTCScythe an important farmers tool.
2022-03-05 05:48:24 +0000 UTCKusarigama. Made originally by farmers after all.

2022-03-05 02:24:02 +0000 UTCFor some reason I kept thinking this was about an American south country cultivator. I vote bow as you already said he hunts small game in the forest. Then perhaps a tomahawk or hatchet.
James
2022-03-05 02:10:15 +0000 UTCHonestly, don't know enough about father's background. I'd say either staff or bow since he's a hunter.
JC
2022-03-05 02:08:51 +0000 UTCSickle/Scythe would have my vote, with his background in farming
2022-03-05 01:26:03 +0000 UTCBattleaxe would be awesome.

2022-03-05 00:11:02 +0000 UTCA staff 1) Great walking stick 2) Attach a pointy thing to top; ergo a spear 3) Great for helping carry stuff 4) Can attack from both ends 5) extremely common and can be made out of wood (or some sort of spirit tree for a bonus) 6) Affinity matching with tree 7) You can never go wrong with bludgeoning something (were as chainmail will block a cutting edge) 8) Generally considered harmless 9) Extermely practical (tent post?) 10) Good for poking things 11) Easily converted into a sling-staff! 12) consealed cane sword (or staff sword?) 13) If you stab someone with a sword they might die, if you bruse them heavly, you have the option of asking them questions before they die 14) If the MC was female... well, she guided her staff right between his legs. 15) Common part of any farming implement (easily hidden), part of a shovel, rake, hoe, ... 16)... I better stop at this point.

2022-03-04 23:39:31 +0000 UTCI am going to go out there and say I would love to see some nunchaku. Never really used and they could be some sort of elemental damage and with a growth aspect, Marc could cause them to extend or shrink. Endless possibilities

2022-03-04 21:25:23 +0000 UTCA sickle. I like and totally forgot about that farming tool. That and a scythe.
Corwin
2022-03-04 21:15:13 +0000 UTCI’m under “other” and was thinking an iron fan, or a knife, or sickle and chain. The sort of weapons a poor person would use to great effect.
Joseph
2022-03-04 21:13:45 +0000 UTCYes archers an rare in cultivation. I think it would be fun to start with a bow. A ranged weapon is cool
Alex Lindsay
2022-03-04 21:12:45 +0000 UTCArchers are so underrated and rare in cultivation stories.

2022-03-04 20:58:17 +0000 UTC1) Dagger (Arkansas toothpick or Bowie) 2) Staff 3) Long Bow 4) Axe/hatchet Farmers don't have a ton of money. So kind of think he should have a lower tier kind of weapon. An axe or hatchet has a use on a farm as much as a weapon. Long bow isn't particularly complicated and would be in line with a farmer. A staff is just as much a walking stick as anything else. A dagger is versatile and has some value. You mentioned his family sold the core and paid their taxes for 20 years ahead of time. So definitely not keeping some exotic weapons that can be sold
Corwin
2022-03-04 20:47:18 +0000 UTCBladed gauntlets. Kinda like wolverine.

2022-03-04 20:37:57 +0000 UTCCan't help myself. Feel the neeeed to be a jackass. I vote penknife :)
