Guys! Do you want me to do anything with this?

Hey folks,

So the artist who I passed off a special scene to got back to me. It looks like this:

Hmm... So as the title of the post says: you guys want me to do anything with this? Right now it's still missing some parts. I'm not sure what to make of it. It's still being done. I'm not terribly excited, but I gave the artist a pretty penny anyway - a tip if you will - for the great effort of putting it together. It's almost 6 weeks since I passed off the job.

My gut says, it took too long, and the art isn't grade A art for what I spent for it.

During that time, while I was programming the menu system and talking to several other artists, I did put some time and thought where I needed help with, and I've concluded that I only need assistance in preparing a good sketch and line work. That's it. Anything more than that and my risk of wasting resources only ramps up higher.

It takes me about 1-3 days to do the lineart since I let it simmer first and see if my eyes are playing tricks on me when it comes to body proportions and stuff. It's a bigger part of production - and bottleneck - for me, so If I can find an artist who can assist with this, I think... I'd go for that. There are two places where I'm trying to find some assistance in:

1.) Line

2.) Shading/Detailing

I've also come to realize that not a lot of artists can or want to shade and detail in the files I prepare. These are separated into parts and since they're not advertising themselves as animators (or at least this is usually the case), they're probably scratching their heads what to do with overlapping areas of the artwork.

I think I can do a rough quickie of it, like do it as-is-where-is (otherwise it'd eat up time to fix up). With the new artists I'm looking at, this one's essentially hmm.. scrapped :P.

Sorry I'm late on this. I don't think it's bad..... but it's not up to standard. That said, I'm curious as to how it would look in GIF form.

Haha! I shall take note of your sentiment! ;)

I like most of what you've gotten back and shared with us... But not really feeling this one

Yes. H stuff costs a pretty penny. Considering there's a lot of scenes, and not everyone can do them well. So not only does it cost a lot, it costs a crap ton more for me because of the much higher risk of failure due to animation requirements if I have everything done from the ground up. This is why I first thought that if I do the major crap work for the artist before they color it in, this might do. but I realized very recently that not all of them can or want to do that, even if the file has been prepared. So really, the only investment that makes a ton of sense for me right now is to invest in good line work and miscellaneous artist support. Thanks for your continued support! I mean, you're witnessing experimental blunders here and I'll have to apologize for that ^^V

It's not bad art, but it's definitely a big departure from the usual style you go for. Ultimately though, I think it all depends on what you're comfortable with. It could be a big investment in terms of money and artistic control, and you don't sound terribly keen on it. I support whatever decision you make though!
