Chapter 49: The Forest Walker

The two lizardmen now lay at his feet. One was dead while the other one was barely clinging to life.

The Lizardman Chief and the redhead girl were staring at him with equally shocked eyes. It was obvious that neither of them expected him to win this fight.

He then heard the girl gasp and point at his chest.

Zephyr had felt a strong tug when the spear was removed from his chest.

Looking down, he realized how serious the wound was. Blood was pouring nonstop, and he had to hurry and use his entire palm to stop the bleeding.

For a normal person, this would be a deadly wound, but Zephyr knew that as long as he contained the bleeding, all he had to do was wait until his health points recovered, and his wound would then close and disappear.

[Level Up…Status Recovery…]

Turns out, he didn't even have to wait that long after all. The lizardman laying on the ground had just died.

Zephyr understood a couple of things about this ‘Level Up’ ability he had. It could only trigger when his enemy dies, and the stronger his defeated enemies were, the sooner it would appear.

He immediately felt the effects of the recovery. But he still kept his hand over the place where the wound had been.

The blood he lost didn't disappear, and it was still all over his furs. As long as he kept his hand there, the lizardman would think he was still mortally wounded and might take the initiative to attack him.

The Lizardman Chief gripped his spear with force, considering taking Zephyr’s bait.

But he was still hesitant. His eyes kept moving back to the girl. Despite her injured state, he still considered her a greatly dangerous foe. This was his reason for remaining close to her. If he charged forward to attack Zephyr, he would be opening himself to taking a poison arrow in his back.

After a few seconds of consideration, he decided that the best course of action was to retreat for now. With the wound he had received, he was already considering Zephyr as good as dead… it was just a matter of time. He could call more warriors and come back for the girl then.

The lizardman let out a loud hiss directed at the zarlas.

Zephyr’s lizard mount seemed to immediately react to these sounds and began to charge at her own rider with its mouth open.

“Hisss!”

The lizardman used this as a distraction to jump back into the lake and disappear.

“You traitorous mount!” Zephyr exclaimed.

He used a Lightning Nova when the creature got closer. He was still a bit hesitant to kill it for some reason.

“Wait! Leave it to me. Don’t kill it!”

He heard the girl shout.

Before the zarlas could attack him again, it was hit on the neck by a small arrow. Just moments later, it collapsed on the grassy ground.

Zephyr noticed some strange device attached to the girl's wrists and assumed it was some sort of weapon used to shoot these.

‘Why didn't she use that thing before, when she was surrounded by the lizardmen?’

The girl noticed his look.

“It can only shoot once before having to recharge. I was saving it for the right time to hit their leader.” She answered the question he was yet to ask.

He then glanced at the zarlas. The creature was not moving an inch, and for a moment, he thought it may be dead after all. But then he noticed its chest moving.

“It’s alive.”

“Just asleep.” The girl said.

“But more importantly, we must treat your wound. You don't have much time left.”

“Oh… you mean this?” He moved away the hides he was wearing, revealing the fact that he no longer had a wound.

“What?! That's impossible. I saw the spear being buried in your flesh, and there is all that blood too.”

“Well, that is because-”

“Zephyr!” Tolfin called for him with his large lungs.

“There you are!” Seth pointed towards him.

The girl hurried to pull a bow from her back and pointed an arrow at Tolfin.

“Don’t get any closer!”

“A Forest Walker!” Tolfin exclaimed while pulling his axe out.

“That girl is a Forest Walker?” Seth asked in shock. By the things he had heard, he was expecting the Forest Walkers to look a lot more eccentric. Other than her red hair and yellow eyes, that girl could have passed as a normal villager back where he used to live.

“You are a Forest Walker?” Zephyr asked the girl.

“And you are a Yellow Mountain barbarian!. I should have known by those furs. But you don’t look anything like them…”

“I am not part of their tribe. I'm just a traveler.” Zephyr tried to explain.

“What about them? Are you going to tell me that the big one is not from Yellow Mountain?” The girl kept her bow pointed at Tolfin.

“Aye, I am!” Tolfin said proudly.

“I am Tolfin, son of Guskarr!”

“You are the son of the tribe Chief?... wait!, I remember you. You were here two years ago, one of your men killed my cousin.” The girl shouted.

‘This is bad… at this rate we are going to end up fighting again.’ He did not want to antagonize this girl. He wanted to find out more about her and why she looked like that Princess from his dreams.

Could she be a far descendant of that Princess?

Could the humans living here be all descendants of the Elmeria Kingdom inhabitants?

“Wait, please. We didn’t come here to cause trouble with your tribe. We are just trying to-”

[Hostile Presence Detected…]

Zephyr caught a glimpse of something moving in the water of the lake.

“Careful!”
