I love how the rookie is sorta like a mix of Brooklyn 99 and Greys Anatomy, we've got some of the more serious storylines (i.e. this episode focusing on DV) and interpersonal drama that Greys gives us, combined with some of the comedic elements from B99 i.e. the cold opens and the little bits like Lucy stealing Tim's wallet at the end. I bet you also enjoy having a more laidback show to react to after Greys and 911 royally screw with your emotions.

Then, he endangers his own son and uses lies to get his son on his side, although, his son most likely would've sided with his father either way. He's got too much of that uber-macho mentality and it caused him to do some monumentally stupid stuff. You said it perfectly when you mentioned that he was trying his best to mess everything up. Talia handled him like a champ at the end there (brain over brawn) π€£π€£π€£
