The ark wasn't "designed" at all, it was cobbled together from whatever space stations happened to be up at the time. They're honestly lucky to have any dropships at all. Also, they can't "produce" anything at all, literally the only ressources they can ever have are the ones they started with, they can only maintain and repurpose, if that.

Seems like he might have some conscience after all. Regardless of the Earth being survivable, they did not have a lot of time going at the current rate with rapidly declining public health (ie. children getting blind from the lack of breathable oxygen..). And there we go, the majority of the citizens have no seats for the homecoming rocket ride. Dystopian nightmare.
