"New Bean Animation Short # 6 (2025)" Preview
Added 2025-11-13 16:00:11 +0000 UTCA little fun fact for the next Bean short! The beans are usually animated on 2s, meaning they skip a frame after each frame to give it a bit of a stop-motion feel. When working on this particular shot in Blender, the bean is waving a flag. The flag itself uses Blender’s cloth physics, but unfortunately, there’s no native way (at least that I know of) to have the cloth simulate at the same frame rate as the bean (12fps).
There are a few alternatives I could’ve gone with but didn’t think of at the time, such as using shape keys instead of a cloth simulation, which would allow me to skip frames. Another option would’ve been to render the video normally, edit it to play at 12fps, and then add some camera motion afterward. However, I wanted to keep the camera motion in the scene itself so I could achieve a bit of parallax or perspective shifting, like the cliff in this shot.
