Q&A - Sexualization of Cosplayers

I'll consider these two questions, because they're actually two different topics.

Q1 - What do you think about the sexualization of girls who cosplay?
A1 - This is a serious problem in the cosplay community.

I'm guilty of exploiting this misconception to my advantage, precisely because so many people years ago assumed I was creating erotic content (despite being a minor at the time).

Unfortunately, the world, and Italy in particular (for example, Christmas comedies and prime-time programs), has always thrived on eroticism to increase popularity and sales. This is evident even in a small part of the video game world, with undressed characters and sometimes surreal bodies, not only for women but also for men.

Returning to the question, cosplayers are not all the same, and those who decide to move into erotic cosplay certainly have their reasons: personally, I don't feel comfortable talking about those who cosplay (classic or altered versions) exclusively for 18+ content because it's "trendy" or embraces an easy market niche.

What I can do is talk about my experience. As a lingerie and cosplay enthusiast, I find it a fun and sometimes almost relaxing pastime. Whether I sexualize myself or not makes little difference in this case, because I'm the one putting myself out there, giving consent, and offering my own conditions. The problem comes when someone ignores or ignores these conditions. It's always important to be considerate, especially with strangers. I think that's the basis of morality, not just "cosplay."

Q2 - What do you think of those who wear only one character?

A2 - I think they're the cutest of them all.

Whether it's a cosplay they've worked on for years, or a purchased costume of their favorite character, or maybe it's the first cosplay of someone who's managed to convince their parents to accept their hobby.

In recent years, it's clear how many cosplayers buy and resell costumes because they're in fashion for two weeks and then lose relevance. It's mind-blowing. We're almost at the level of fast fashion, and it breaks my heart to always want to rush and move on to the next famous anime season after season.

A cosplayer's pride ultimately isn't the variety of characters, but the passion behind everything. You don't have to be good to be part of this community. It certainly takes time and money to improve, but what unites us most is our nerdiness :3

R1 - Questo è un grave problema della community cosplay

Io in primis sono colpevole di sfruttare questo luogo comune a mio vantaggio proprio perché molte MOOOLTE persone assumevano anni fa che io facessi contenuti erotici (nonostante fossi ancora minorenne ai tempi).

Purtroppo il mondo ma anche l'Italia in primis (esempi come cinepanettoni e programmi in prima serata) ha sempre campato sull'erotismo per aumentare popolarità e vendite. Questa cosa resta evidente anche in una piccola parte del mondo videoludico, con personaggi svestiti e corpi a volte surreali non solo di donne ma anche di uomini.

Ritornando alla domanda, i cosplayer non sono tutti uguali e chi decide di spostarsi sull'ero-cosplay ha sicuramente i suoi motivi: personalmente non me la sento di parlare di chi fa cosplay (classici o alterati) esclusivamente per contenuti +18 perché "va di moda" o abbraccia una nicchia di mercato facile.

Quello che posso fare è parlare della mia esperienza, in quanto appassionata di lingerie e cosplay, lo trovo un passatempo divertente e a volte quasi rilassante; sessualizzarmi o no in questo caso cambia poco perché sono io stessa a mettermi in gioco e dare il consenso e offrendo le mie condizioni. Il problema viene quando qualcuno ignora o sorpassa queste condizioni, serve sempre avere un occhio di riguardo soprattutto con chi non si conosce, penso sia la base delle leggi morali, non solo "di chi fa cosplay".

Q2 - Cosa ne pensi di chi porta solo e unicamente un personaggio?

A2 - Penso che siano i più carini di tutti

Che sia un cosplay sul quale hanno lavorato anni oppure un costume comprato ma del proprio personaggio preferito, o magari è il primo cosplay di qualcuno che è riuscito a convincere i genitori ad accettare questo suo hobby.

Negli ultimi anni è visibile la quantità di cosplayer che comprano e rivendono costumi perché vanno di moda per due settimane e poi perdono rilevanza è allucinante, siamo quasi ai livelli del fast fashion e mi si stringe il cuore a questo voler sempre andare di fretta e passare al prossimo anime famoso stagione per stagione.

L'orgoglio di un cosplayer alla fine non è la varietà di personaggi ma la passione che c'è dietro ogni cosa, non serve essere bravi per far parte di questa community, sicuramente servono tempo e soldi per migliorare ma principalmente ciò che ci unisce è l'essere dei nerd :3
