My return to the desert didn't go as planned. I haven't been to Vegas since January 2020 and even though that was 2 months ago actually it was 5 years ago. If this is deeply upsetting information to you, than imagine my surprise to discover that my favorite spots had changed significantly. Access was now exclusively from a much further spot, the location has changed either by man or time...I'm not sure which.
I have images of the lead photo of Bella in the same location with Nicole where she would now be buried under nearly 10 feet of gravel. Its actually crazy. I hope it simply has not washed out in years and that people didn't decide to ruin an incredible natural wonder in the name of a easier hike.
But I have no clue. This was a 50% scouting trip 50% photo shoot day for me, as long as I got some amazing photos and formulated a plan for the next day...great. And Bella was all for rolling with whatever the day threw at us. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect team to take something like this on.
So after discovering my favorite spot had been kind of ruin we bounced around and scouted out another location. That I used exclusively for the next day! This is the redder more boulder type area. Its a difficult little spot to shoot because it sits in a shaded valley, and the stone absorbs so much light color and reflects so little back. You'd think it would be a difficult place to shoot and capture anything but red. And instead its always this intensely blue mildly desaturated area. Its actually wild. But I do love seeing the depth of influence on the final color treatment the landscape plays on the final image.
