I haven't traveled to LA and shoot for years, to be honest I haven't really traveled anywhere to shoot for years at least now in a way that made me nervous. I've gone out to the coast, up to the peninsula and to the mountains, but they are very similar to home.
This trip I was worried that I had lost the part of me that can figure out a new place quickly enough to have a good shoot, luckily Faeriere was happy to be out walking in nature, and down to have a bit of an adventure to find this spot.
We climbed through a small thicket and popped out into this incredible little cliff side covered in California Everlasting a flower I had only been able to identify for two days after a friend introduced me to them.
These shot's remind me of my only experience of the American West as a child at the natural history museum. It felt like such a beautifully deep tableaux framing wild life in their natural habitat, and Faeriere's ability to pose within that space was just amazing.
I went from relief that we had found a good place to shoot to excitement that I was creating images that I was incredibly excited about
