Hi hello it’s me, and I’m throwing out this free post because one of the questions I get all the time is how do you take these photos in such cold/extreme climates, and I wanted to make a little bit of a longer post for a simple idea.
Models pose better when they are comfortable!
Lots of things contribute to a models comfort on location, but when you are shooting in extreme locations like a north west rain forests, or a glacial lagoon the number one thing that contributes to comfort is warmth. In order to make sure the people I work with are warm for the longest time possible I have stopped worrying entirely about one thing...clothing lines.
If you are shooting on digital at this point there is basically no reason to worry about lines on a model. What you gain in the extra time a model will be able to comfortably pose in cold or damp weather by wearing water proof jackets, high boots, and insulated wool socks will more than make up for the 15 second inconvenience in Photoshop. I promise!
Everyone I work with is completely bundled up on these shoots until the last possible second. We work out poses, exposure, lens choice etc just using a face to go off of, and the scene surrounding them.
Then we shoot! In these frigid climates an extra minute or two makes the difference between getting a shot and getting the shot.
So how about we stop saying “wear something light that won’t leave lines” and start saying “just dress for the weather”
(Ps if you wanna see how this shoot came out go ahead and subscribe)
