I don't even remember exactly where these photos were shot. I know it was another photographers home years ago that I was connected to some how through Tanya Dakin. I think one of the weirdest feelings about moving to a place after having visited it so many times is that I know there are a bunch of little landmarks in this city, places I have shot, that live as unconnected dots in my brain. I'll turn down a street and a feeling of familiarity overwhelms me, but more often than not I'm unable to piece it together.
Have I stood in that home before? Struggled to find the right light in the windows...I just don't know.
Portland is a little like that though, a suburb that grew into a city. Every street can feel entirely familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. I still don't really know my way around. I can only compare it to places I have known before, places I have learned by walking.
The rain was falling when I pulled up to the home. I believe Avina was already there. The photographer now nearly faceless in my memory let me in and showed me around. I didn't know where to go outdoors back then. It was raining gently, and I didn't want the stress of having to shoot fast the first time I worked with Avina. I'd felt lucky just to get the chance to work with her as the curation of her work was just flawless.
This was a time long enough ago when I was still mostly shooting with studio lighting, and traveling with it, so just about any indoor space could be made to work. I just loved this tub though and using the curtain to further diffuse the light.
