Porcelain, Feryn and Mika Lovely at Franklin Falls

Summer and Winter transformations in the North West are a little different than I what I grew up with.  On the east coast summer ends, the green dies off, and the snow rolls in, or it doesn't...either way the color is gone.  The forest is leafless.

Our first summer in Seattle the green environment disappeared as the forests caught on fire, and the rain stopped for far too long.  We spent the fall out of the country to come home to winter.  The shorter days and rain brought back the state I knew.  It rarely snows here in Seattle, but we can travel to it.  Just up the mountain passes the cascades turn into clouds white with snow.  Winter lives within reach just out from under the grey and gloom.

This post is from two trips to Franklin Falls both with Porcelain, but a late summer trip with Feryn before the fires, and a winter trip with Mika after the early snow melt.

I love the way things change here.  I love learning how that change happens.  How new the light feels as the seasons pass.
