Where does one begin with something like this? I don't really know. Its weird how falling in love works. I fell in Iceland at first from a far, more of an infatuation. I saw it in photos in 2010 when I was contacted about assisting a couple from Philadelphia that was teaching landscape workshops in large format black and white. I would need to pay my own way, and spend almost an entire month away from Nicole to do it.
I was broke, but I reached out and told them I was in, and they told me they had found somebody else.
Flash forward to 2017, Nicole and I are getting ready for our third trip to a country we have slowly fallen in love with the reality of. It takes time to get to know a place, and it takes time to fall in love with Iceland. Parts of it I fell in love with right away, but more and more I love all of it. But for all its beauty Iceland is a rugged place not really ready for the explosion of tourism it has experienced. They are managing better than most places would, but its not the highway rest stop, public bathroom, food at any hour experience you have driving across most of America. So planning a workshop here comes with a lot of problems that need to be addressed, but for our first one arranging everything I thought it went amazingly.
I want to try and capture the experience with words, but I don't really know how. 5 days of travel with 10 photographers, 4 models, and incredible location after incredible location. I spend about half the shooting time running around checking on students, instructing, checking on models, and then immediately passing out at sun down. Still even with all of that I managed to capture some of my all time favorite photos, and even more important helped my attendees create some of theirs!
So I want to jump on this and share my first round of edits from this trip with you all! If you want info on next years Arctic Nude workshop shoot me a message!
