We Were Wanderers - Argentina

I started keeping a journal while I was in South America...I've always written mostly for myself, and more for my amusement than memories sake.  I am very lucky in that I have a very good long term memory, so while people's names often escape me Nicole and my travels do not.

We weren't actually supposed to go to Argentina.  Our orginal plan was to catch our 3 flights, rent a car, drive that car 10 hours, get on a boat for 4 days, arrive in Torres del Paine, drive back to the boat take it 5 days north, drive to Santiago, and then catch our three flights home.  Unfortunately this itinerary left us only 12 hours to drive from our ferry to Santiago, a 10 hour drive.  This would be possible, but unrealistic, and it didn't account for the amount of time it takes to unload the entire ferry of all of its cargo, so realizing that we would more than likely miss our flight we got permission to instead drive our rental car from Torres del Paine through Argentina all the way back to Santiago, a 40 hour drive, considerably longer, but we could actually do it and still catch our flight, so we did it.

All of that said I now had three days to plan a road trip through Argentina, and absolutely no time to plan place for us to shoot, but we still managed to fit a little bit in one day that we stopped in El Chalten.  It was an intensely windy, and rainy day, so Mount Fitz Roy was completely hidden from our view, but we still found some beautiful flora that captured the nature of Argentina albeit in a much smaller way than we would normally aim for.  Still I love these images, and I hope you do too.

Mostly while in Argentina we drove, we searched for gas, and we tried to figure out how to get from point A to point B on a series of roads that would often not exist on paper map, gps, or google maps, but where very real, or we'd find the opposite were roads on our maps simply had vanished since they were published just 5 months ago.  I can honestly say that I don't think we'd have managed to get around as well as we did had we not picked up two Chilean hitchhikers on the Chile/Argentina boarder who saved us a few times in tight spots where finding gas or a place to stay in town seemed very very unlikely.  The adventure behind us now I am incredibly grateful for everything this trip taught me.
