We made our way out to the Olympic Peninsula for Christmas. I haven't had as much time to bounce around in the amazing nature of the North West since we moved as I would like, but we are starting to finally settle down in our new home, and have had the time to plan a few trips. I forget durring summer, spring, and fall that when winter comes the days will be so much shorter, and therefore the amount of time I have to create will be so much less as well. It makes getting motivated or into the swing of things for a shoot harder, but we are all trying to push forward and shoot when and while we can.
I was hoping that our trip would sort of be an inauthentic Olympic experience. The weather forecast for Christmas eve and Christmas day didn't call for rain, but when we arrived to set up camp we were met with what I'm almost always met with on the Peninsula endless cold and dreary rain. Still we spent the night trying as best we could to keep our fire lit, and cook over it.
The next morning we woke up found that we'd managed to kill the battery to the car, so I hiked out to the road, and flagged people down until somebody finally agreed to drive in and help give us a jump...fortunately by afternoon we managed to get up and out. Being the only people camping turned out to be both a blessing and a curse.
Knowing that we didn't have much daylight we grabbed a quick breakfast and coffee, and set off for second beach to shoot at low tide and sunset, and things finally worked out. A beautiful cloudy sky rolled in, and we found ourselves alone on one of my favorite beaches in the world.
