The Rising Lands - Iceland

I was blown away by the landscape in Iceland.  After spending the last 9 years driving hundreds of hours for every trip in the United States, its hard to really grasp how densely Iceland is packed with beautiful and varied views in just a 9 hour drive.

For my landscapes this trip I really wanted to try and vary my lens selection a little more than I usually do for landscapes.  I almost always shoot with my 17-40mm F4L when shooting landscapes for the wide angle views, but I tried to vary it a little more and keep my 70-200mm F2.8L to shoot as well.  I love the restriction of shooting with a different field of view.  Using the longer lens let me focus a lot more on textures, and patters in the water, the sand, and the ice.  I still used my 17-40mm F4 quite a bit on this trip, but I'd say it was about 50/50.

It was also really challenging using a wide angle lens this late in the year as the weather was very windy and very rainy.  Using the longer lens with a lens hood and a rain cover on my camera let me shoot without getting water on the lens.  Had I not brought the rain jacket I am 100% confident I would have two dead camera bodies from this trip.

Almost all of my landscapes this trip were shot during the first or last hours of the day.  Most of the noon hours were spent driving, or shooting nudes in nature with Nicole and London.  The light was fairly consistent almost every day, so I took advantage of the brighter hours for shooting shorter shutter speeds and hand holding nudes, and got on tripod for when the daylight was considerably less.

I've tried as best I can to name the files after the many different locations I tracked down.  There are a few places that I just pulled over, while driving on the road that are unnamed, and therefore just titled Iceland.  I hope you all enjoy the photos from this adventure as much as I did taking them.

These are breathtaking. You captured the other wordly beauty of the place. I am sure you took thousands of frames. You should think about publishing a book of these photos.
