Amanda Elrod For The Jungle

This road trip began a little differently than ones I've had in the past. I didn't have the week of anxiety where I tried to figure out how I could cancel everything and stay home that I usually get. Instead we drove straight down to Nicole's parents farm, and spent a day milking goats, making cheese, and bottle feeding the baby goats that were just a few days old.It was a good time. The next day we were off to Atlanta. We drove for 10 hours. The Appalachian mountains were bright green. It was spring and we were officially back on the road.Amanda and I decided to shoot in the woods back behind her house. I bought this vintage hand mirror to use. I wanted to take a small piece of Temperance into the outdoors for The Jungle. The things you can do with a little added reflection, will probably always interest me.We walked through the woods until we found a nice spot where the sun was coming in behind her, and she could stand, lay, or kneel in the shade of a big pine tree. I switched back and forth between my 70-200mm F2.8 and my 85mm F1.4 for these. The main reason I decided to switch was the minimum focal distance on the 70-200mm was just not close enough. The 85mm allowed me much more versatility in how close I could get to the subject and therefore better isolate what I wanted to be the perceived subject of the image be it the reflection, the hands, the mirror. Going back through them later I personally found the most powerful images to be the more hinting images. Regardless I hope you all enjoy this series as much as I do.https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ii6wr04j2z7ns1j/AABYK4AQlkCxoMfSyPyi6i7Za?dl=0

I'm really intrigued and impressed by this set! The mirror is used very gracefully, and I agree that the "hinting" pictures are most powerful. I got a kind of "Alice in Wonderland" feel, like Laura mentioned a coming of age story of self-discovery, going out into an unknown world and discovering more about yourself in it. Very interesting to see!
