I missed the leaves changing color from 2007-2012. I caught a tiny bit in 2013, but mostly just leaves on the ground, which is fine and all, but fall in the north east is one of the most beautiful times of year. It just seemed that I was either away, or an early winter storm decided to ruin the season before it even got the chance to begin, but last year (2014) I finally got it.
All of the stars aligned for Vaunt and I to steal away to the woods near our house, and shoot in the autumn colors for 40 minutes one day. This is truly a lucky 40 minutes as we've spent so much of the year apart traveling to different parts of the country working our asses off, and as I said autumn hasn't lasted very long out here lately.
Shooting outdoor nudes and really capturing the beautiful colors of leaves on trees is actually pretty difficult. I had a little bit of a hard time composing to bring the viewers eye to Vaunt as the subject, while still really showcasing the leaves. It was a bit of a tricky shoot. I used a combination of my 17-40mm F4 lens for some wide but closer shots, and the 85mm F1.4 for some shots from across the creek. I really like the way both lenses turned out. I was a bit of a skeptic when everyone started talking about how amazing primes are, but the 85mm totally delivers.
