2023-01-06 16:31:03 +0000 UTCUgh. The misinformation by doctors struggle is real. I read an article on medscape (first mistake, it’s basically the YouTube comments section with post secondary degrees) with a panel of physicians, notably none of them being psychiatrists or neurologists, confidently asserting that “ketamine has the same risk profile as opioids, because its desirable effects are from opioid receptor agonist, which we know because naltrexone nullifies its action”. 1. No it doesn’t 2. Except it’s primarily a NMDA and GABA receptor agonist and has only moderate affinity for the *kappa, not the mu, opioid receptor 3. All you have to do is take both at the same time to verify that naltrexone does almost nothing to dampen the effects of ketamine, only making it very slightly less euphoric/habit forming which if anything makes it MORE medically appropriate. They are telling a bold faced lie knowing that the vast majority of viewers will accept it based on the speaker’s perceived authority, that those viewers do not have access to those compounds to fact check their veracity, when they are part of the tiny segment who CAN access them legally and are simply too lazy to test their hypothesis which turned out to be flat out wrong.
