I think the self-reflection before Reigen's message to Mob shows that it was genuine and not self-serving. And it was just good karma coming back around with Mob hearing it and deciding to help him out. So yeah I don't read it as shady at all, and we even get Reigen willing to come clean to Mob at the end which suggests a less manipulative version of himself going forward. Not perfect, but realistic imo. But I dunno, maybe I just love Reigen too much haha

2025-09-11 11:49:44 +0000 UTCI think if you have known someone long enough, especially if that someone is significantly younger than you (and depends on you), it is imperative that you redefine your relationship once in a while and let your relationship evolve and change and grow from that. Maybe I’m wearing parent (and older sibling lolol) googles lol, but for me it is HARD work to reevaluate what my children (or siblings) actually need as they grow and mature and become more independent so I don’t hold them back while still providing them with that stability they can trust and fall back on when they need it. Reigen is stuck a few years in the past, both in regards to himself and with Mob, and now that Mob is changing their relationship needs to change as well. Mob realized this, Reigen did not and so he fumbled some of their recent interactions hard before he got a wake up call. It happens. Change takes time, growth takes time and I think they are on a solid path forward to change their relationship for the better. The only (tiny!) problem I have with the show is that SOMETIMES Mob is really too mature for his age lol, a typical teenager would have exploited that fumble a bit more, but I guess Mob is not a typical teenager lol.
