The thing with Eren's decision making and regret is honestly understandable. Obviously, sometimes you can make the absolute best possible choices and still have things not work out. That's already a hard thing to accept, even when we know it to be true. But it's worse in his case. Because yes, he made the best / "right" choice, but he went against his gut to do it. He listened to what everyone else said, instead of his gut, and then everything blew up anyway. In that kind of a situation, it's WAY more difficult to keep telling yourself that the choice you made was right, and we're talking about a guy who's already a hothead, and an adolescent male to boot. With all those factors, but mostly the one where he actively went against his gut to listen to everyone and then they all still died, for HIS sake above all else... there's just no way that doesn't massively screw with your mind. You can understand your responsibility and your importance to the cause, but still be sickened by having to live with everyone throwing their lives away for your sake. Especially when your gut is telling you that you could have made a difference, even if it's completely wrong.
