Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Episode 2 Reaction- It Didn't Have to be Magic (YouTube Version)

There was a lot that happened this episode! Loving Fern's backstory and how Heiter came to be her guardian. The flower part though.... yes!!!

Adam is spot on that Frieren lacks self-awareness - but it’s in regards to how she feels about Himmel and the rest of the Heroes Party. Sarah is right that Frieren is very self-aware of who she is in regards to her other aspects. Frieren is still trying to understand her true feelings.

The flower scene soundtrack is one of my favourites, gives me goosebumps every time. Notice the animation, with the strands of hair moving instead of being fixed with their body movement, the sound effects that they sourced a different "step on leaves" sound for each step. This production team is amazing. Having already caught up with the manga, rewatching this makes many scenes hit harder. Your interpretations of the time theme are great, and similar to what I took from the series. I'm curious to see if it'll change your perspective on life as it did to me. For some reason, this series unlocked my capability to live in the present. I've been trying to do that for years, and even though I've been privileged to be able to go to therapy for over a decade, and knew rationally what should be the best way to go through life, I couldn't actually feel it. It's so incredible how some things just "click" into place with a specific stimulus. However, Frieren is definitely something special, as the amount of people that get that "click" watching the show is very above average. Also, Himmel is an amazing character, not only because of the impact he has on other characters but also on us real people. Something about him makes him seem very wise, but not in a shonen-like way where most wise characters feel flat, as if someone read a pamphlet on what a smart person should be like and tried to copy that. Watching him in the series, I feel he genuinely does not think he knows everything, but has a very powerful unshakeable core belief that being kind to others is the most important thing for him. While most characters written to be like that strike me as "ok, this trope again", Himmel's attitude, word choice, actions - all make him feel much more like a real person who I want to be around. My comment was supposed to be just 3 sentences and I wrote another textbook, but that is just how good this series, both anime and manga, is. Can't wait for season 2.

I really appreciate watching this anime with you guys. While Adam has his fantasy knowledge, Sarah brings the deep analysis. Honestly, one of the many reasons I love this anime is for its deep meaning, which came to me in a very pivotal moment in my life, and hearing you guys commentary enriches that message a lot more for me.
