So from manga readers perspective , while the movie was still good they cut a lot of those character moments your talking about to fit it's run time. As for what Adam said about how it ended that's explained more in the manga and even if he got it up they would have lost because it was a double touch by kenma

Hi Sarah and Adam. You’ve both caught up with “Haikyuu!!”. Congrats! While we’re at it, I have a few details you might not have noticed that I’d like to point out! At 1:26:10, we can see Lev raising his hands in a way that creates a much bigger gap compared to the two blockers next to him. He intentionally made that opening to lure Hinata into spiking the ball through it—right into Yaku, who was already waiting behind. Then we get a shot of Nishinoya’s eyes, which seem to show that he’s figured out their strategy. Compared to the overconfident, reckless Lev from before—who only cared about kill blocks—he’s now learned that he can trust Yaku to always be behind him, guarding their court. He also realized that being a good middle blocker doesn’t necessarily mean stopping every spike. Lev learned this during the OVA episode when Yaku sprained his ankle. Lev’s tactic here is repeated again at 1:29:18, which is why Kuroo tilts his head back and laughs proudly lol. At 1:26:28, right after Nishinoya makes a receive, he quickly moves out of the way. Remember in season 4 episode 7, when Kageyama pointed out that Nishinoya was getting in the way of the back-row attackers? This time, he’s taken that advice to heart and executed it perfectly! The movie even shows us Yaku noticing this and praising him: “You’ve been terrifying ever since, Yuu!” And finally, about Nekoma’s last point. This wasn’t covered in the movie, but the manga has a chapter that explains it more clearly. In fact, even if the ball hadn’t slipped off Kenma’s hands because of sweat—or if one of his teammates had managed to save it—the point would still have gone to Karasuno anyway because Kenma made a double contact, touching the ball twice in a row. Kai knew it and that diving for the ball wouldn’t change the outcome, but he still went for it, thinking “I don’t want this to end.” which is heartbreaking. And one last thing, at 1:55:23, those three camera angles of Hoshiumi’s jump perfectly mirror The Little Giant’s jump from episode 1 season 1. I love your reactions and can’t wait to see you guys dive into the manga. Thank you so much for the journey!

It's important to mention that the biggest critics of the movie are manga readers. I haven't read, but they apparently had to cut a lot of little character arcs and specific plays in order to fit the runtime, which is likely why the studio made the creative decision to focus mainly on Kenma v Hinata. This will likely be the case for the Kamomedai match, sadly. It's also so stupid that they're ending it at Kamomedai when there's still so much more afterwards, but reasons as to why they may be doing this is 1. Movies are more profitable, I think, and greater time + budget is allocated 2. To animate realistic volleyball in new ways every season gets increasingly difficult, and perhaps it's simply not a project that some leadership in the studio want to do anymore. Maybe, they want to move on, which is essentially what happened after S3 with the staff change. But, we can always hope that the success of these films can perhaps greenlight more seasons! It's been wonderful following your journey through Haikyuu (3rd time watching for me), and I can't wait for the upcoming film plus your reactions!

Kuroo mentoring Tsukki and was really pushing for the "battle of the garbage dump" early on because he knows a rising tide lifts all boats.
