September Chronicles: From Mercian Queens to the Shadows of Erebus
Added 2025-09-01 16:46:56 +0000 UTC
September has taken us through two very different worlds: 10th-century Anglo-Saxon England, where farmers, friars, and queens raised a wall against the Vikings, and Neverra, where the shadows of Erebus manifest in new and terrifying forms. A month that joined daily life with epic struggle, history with legend.
The Adventurer (Historical – Anglo-Saxon England)

Characters

Æthelflæd, Lady of the Mercians (c. 870–918) – daughter of Alfred the Great, she ruled Mercia after her husband’s death and led decisive campaigns against the Danes. In 917 she captured Derby and in 918 forced Leicester to surrender. The miniature depicts her receiving a messenger, accompanied by a friar, symbol of command and spiritual legitimacy.

Priest on Horseback – the inseparable presence of faith within the fyrd, blessing banners and sustaining morale.

Monk with Donkey – a scene of daily life: a friar carrying bundles of firewood, reminding us that monastic life also shared the most humble labors.
Troops

Fyrd Archers – free men and peasants turned bowmen, defending their land with coordinated volleys.

Fyrd Slingers – commoners armed with slings, harassing the enemy from the rear and proving that even a stone could defend the kingdom.
Others

Donkeys – resilient beasts of burden, essential for trade and rural economy in Anglo-Saxon England.
The Bannerman (Lords of the Nigth)

Characters

Braelan Delcroix – Constable of the Realm, second only to King Caelis. His love for Prince Almarion shattered the vampires’ designs and plunged Neverra into civil war. He fell in a duel against Élior Avarielle, leaving his house extinguished.

Undead Bishop – once a servant of Erebus, fallen into disgrace and transformed into a necromancer. His fate is inseparable from the Altar of the Spectral Veil, dragging his curse across Neverra.

Spectre – a spectral rider wreathed in ghostly flame, mounted on a steed of mist. To some, it is a herald of death; to others, the very shadow of the Veil given form.
Troops

Ordo Draconis with Wightblades – Arasne’s vampiric elite, knights on foot wielding tomb-forged blades that drain life and bind the fallen.

Bestial Winged Vampires – twisted, ravenous creatures sighted over Valcasta. Neither gunpowder nor Kraegar discipline seems able to contain their fury.
Others

Altar of the Spectral Veil – a profane chariot that silences bells and raises the dead in its wake, driven by necromancers.
