August Preview: Phoenix Cohort Incoming + Anglo‑Saxon Horse Size

Hi guys,

This month, as you know, we’re kind of half on vacation.

Next month, in the Bannerman tier, you’re going to get a brand‑new unit: the Phoenix Cohort, accompanied by the Swan Knights and the Maiden Guard from our Kickstarter Elven Lords: The Queen’s Duty.

We’re finishing up a few small fixes because, as is usual with these minis, they were designed for physical casting, not digital.

On another front, we’re working on a new Anglo‑Saxon month.

Here’s a little question. It includes the first mounted miniature in the historical range.

According to the archaeological data we’ve checked, Anglo‑Saxons were relatively tall (about 168 cm on average, 165–170 cm in most burial finds). Their horses, on the other hand, were ponies—around 125 cm at the withers.

We’re showing you the Anglo‑Saxon lord on horseback here. The horse‑to‑rider proportion is realistic using those references.

Do we stay realistic, or would you prefer we make the horse a bit larger?

Hola chicos,

Great rider, I would also prefer a bigger horse to be completely honest 🫣

Wow you're right, horse really were smaller back then! Hmmm, I would say having both options would be nice, but if it was only one option, I would say it would look better if the horse was slightly larger since it's the king riding it, so it would make him look more "kingly". Otherwise if it were just an officer or whatever lower ranking soldier, the smaller true to history size would be fine. I really appreciate the efforts to be historically accurate!
