I think about the young princes who are both in their late teens. Himank is gorgeous but a handful, and Dhaval is such a lovely young man but timid. “It wouldn’t be so bad,” I huff.
“Speaking of twins,” Evelyn chuckles. “I have a job coming up soon in the Polar.” She takes her tea, sipping it before adding a drop of honey.
“The Polar?” I scowl. “But you hate the cold.”
Evelyn shrugs. “I’ve been considering if I should take it or not. But now, after hearing this news, I’m thinking I really should.”
“Well,” I murmur, growing concerned. “What’s the job?” If Evelyn was on the fence about the job offer, it meant it was something really big, something very dangerous.
Evelyn sighs, taking a cookie and dunking it into her tea. “It’s from the royal family actually,” she says, starting out slow to ease me in. “The Czar sent me a message specifically, just because of your recommendation to Mythri. The Czar greatly trusts Mythri and her influence you know?”
“You’re hiding something, Evelyn,” I grumble.
Evelyn points a finger at me. “Don’t give me that scrunched up little badger face,” she fusses at me.
“You always do this when you take something dangerous on! Remember the giant boars? You said you were going to a pig farm!” I snap at her.
“Technically,” Evelyn scrunches up her face.
“And what about that rogue band of Orcs?” I snap at her. “The ones that were hunting down the Kobolds?”
“I said there was a couple,” Evelyn grumbles guiltily.
“There were twenty and you were with a mercenary group of five!” I continue to scold her.
“Pike count as like, ten people,” Evelyn scoffs.
I give Evelyn a withering stare and she huffs, finally relenting. “There is a dragon in the Polar,” she finally grumbles. “It’s been destroying their Navy vessels that are trying to help an island between their coast and the Reptilia coast.”
I stare her down, feeling a pit in my stomach that isn’t the baby. “And how many are you taking with you?”
Evely sips her tea.
“Evelyn!” I snap at her. “Please tell me that you are not going out on this mission alone!” I yank her tea cup from her hand.
Evelyn rolls her eyes. “I’ll have some of their soldiers with me. Gregori said that dragon will only take one combatant at a time. You don’t need to worry.” She reaches for the tea cup and I pull away from her reach.
“This is a fucking dragon, Evelyn!”
