Inked pages! Also: re-drawing boring panels without making them interesting.

A selection of recent pages, all inked-up and looking good.

In the last page there, you’ll see an alternate re-draw for DD’s face. Today, when I was prepping pages for next week (see: tightening up the pencils where they’re ambiguous or lazy) I found two panels that looked wrong, for reasons I couldn’t quite figure out. They, too, would require re-drawing.

(As usual, it’s faint because I’m trying to show you the blue-line “pencils,” which are by design hard to see.)

This first panel, maybe the mouth looks a bit gormless or maybe the pose just wasn’t working. Either way, RE-DRAW!

I like the more subdued reaction, too.

In the last panel, DD’s mom takes on a sort of bland non-expression. I did one re-draw to improve it (better) and then another to make her expression and pose less ho-hum (better still).

I’ll use that last pose, and I’ll place it to the right of its panel, instead of to the left, because in conjunction with the first panel, there’s a lot of mid-shot figure-on-left-facing-right going on.

Both of these panels are sort of workmanlike; they don’t do a whole lot except some character business. BUT! I like the center panel on this page SO MUCH that I think it’s better to subdue the rest of the page so that the center panel does compositional double-duty.
