Proof of Life #256: More details on the next update

If that’s not the case, worry not, for I have something to make it better! Yes, it’s another PoL! Who would have thought?
The past week has been spent mostly writing the script for the next update, and commissioning a whole bunch of stuff. It’s now 95% done. I just need to have the last 5% ready as well as write the two last scenes (I’ve already written the first two).
I usually don’t spend so much time writing early on, but as I mentioned last PoL, HC3’s main artist is going to be unavailable for a good 1-2 months before the end of this week, so I had to commission as much stuff as possible before that. That meant having a good grasp of the scenes, spicy or not, and which one would require what custom sprite to work.
Anyway, as I’ve said, I’m mostly done with that, and I’ve started development of the new update in earnest. It should go more smoothly this time since I’ve got it all written on virtual paper. I’m also pretty happy with what I’ve come up with. By the way, I’m trying to improve my writing by… writing less. Yep. The whole “show not tell”, as they call it. I’m adding some more symbolism as well, and skimming off some unnecessary dialogues. I’m doing what I can, because with low-details pixel art, it can get pretty challenging to show things without explaining or narrating them. We’ll see how it goes. The spicy scenes themselves will remain pretty much the same.
This update will contain a bit less scenes than the previous one, three in total (2 for Rose, 1 for Cyanna) and one extra scene. The extra scene will be Cyanna and Ulrod, and I’ll just adapt the whole “Cyanna picking her new swimsuit with Ulrod” idea I laid out in the last extra scene PoL as a flashback so people don’t have to replay through update 17 to see it. Since everyone will be back to the capital by the end of the update, I’ll probably be able to add 1-2 freeroam events as well. Not too many since I’m already adding a few mini-scenes for Haylen and Lily in this update.

2025-01-15 18:45:08 +0000 UTCYeah, Cyanna got stronger physically, but mentally she's still relatively weak, especially when it comes to certain things. Ulrod's aware of that, and is using it against her and get her to depend on him more. Also, circumstances and fate are helping him as well^^ Got more of that in store for the next update. Well, I often re-read what I wrote and ask myself whatever the hell I was on when I decided to phrase things the way I did. It sometimes sound so clunky, and not the way an actual human would speak. I've got to admit though, I'm more and more satisfied with what I write lately, enough that I don't feel like redoing the entire dialogue or narration every time. What I'm trying to do now is imply things more than have the characters say it out loud, and let the players deduct their state of mind by themselves. Some script writer called it the "unifying theory of 2+2", where instead of giving players/viewers 4, you give them 2+2 and let them work out the rest. It gets people more involved and things feel more natural when you don't spell out everything.

2025-01-15 13:20:06 +0000 UTCGod, I wish, but definitely not. I can't finish it in only 3 weeks, and I've got other stuff that needs to be worked on as well. Currently, I'm trying to get the game Steam-ready, but that means I have to rework entire scenes in the prologue. Also, I've been working non-stop all throughout Christmas and New Year, so maybe I'll actually get 2-3 days rest here and there. It won't take 2 months to finish it though.

2025-01-15 13:08:04 +0000 UTCGot to admit, this latest update made me a lot more interested in Cyanna. I like the notion of her slowly transitioning into some kind of 'perfect' wife. She got strong to protect herself and the people she cared about, but now Ulrod is essentially robbing her of that role by becoming her 'protector' and forcing her to rely on him. That's hot. ...Though I've got a big impregnation fetish. That helps with my sudden interest. As an aside, I can tell you that I've never once had any particular issue with your prose. No odd line that have taken me out of things (which is a fine line with porn, given the line between silly and hot is rather arbitrary). It's all been rather excellent for me as a reader. If it's something you're worrying about, you needn't.

2025-01-14 05:46:18 +0000 UTCYeah, this one will definitely take less time than the last update. One less scene, and especially a lot fewer maps to make. I'll still make a few for 2-3 scenes I have in mind, but it's nowhere near what I had to do so far.

2025-01-14 01:22:37 +0000 UTCI don't think we're that far yet. I mean, there's still a few months of work left until we get to the endings, but not THAT much. With Lily and Haylen's content to finish along with the main storyline, I'd say between 5 to 8 months? I'm not sure whether that qualifies as a long way for you though?^^ I could always be wrong though. I'm repeating myself there, but I've never been much of a meticulous planner.

I know it's impossible to determine exactly how far along we are, but I have to admit that the latest update is seriously starting to make me want to see the revenge ending haha. Are we still a long way from when the game will reach the point where we'll have to decide which ending we take?
