In the defense of most people in the once piece world, most pirates are awful people who steal, kill, and other bad stuff. Luffy and shanks crews are exceptions.

I don't want to say any specifics to avoid hints for the future, but some things in these episodes could be considered a bit contradictory to canon events and confusing later on if you don't know that. Either way, loving your reactions and enthusiasm for the series.
