2025-12-02 06:16:41 +0000 UTCThe original screenplay apparently had some lines to explain it as how Doc just needed someone to do some chores for him and Marty is the one who got hired, and once Marty saw all the inventions Doc was working on, he stuck around after. Before I learned that, I liked to think Doc was an old Science teacher who got fired for being a crackpot, since the Principal mentions him in a disapproving way.
