I've been experimenting with shading lately, I used to go with just white for lighting and black for shading but I've been getting better results by shading using the same color but darker, less saturated and shifted towards a colder hue and doing the inverse for lighting.
It's probably basic stuff but hey at least I'm not fucking that up anymore.
