I love this anime. It handles the characters, situations, and emotions better than most anime could dream of.

2021-03-08 12:29:31 +0000 UTCThis anime is definitely a "show, don't tell" anime, and I was also a little confused at first. But it is the most gripping "slow" anime I've ever seen. A very good mix of humor and sadness, but never hopelessness, dealing with depression and mental wellness very well, and NEVER requiring me to actually learn the rules of Shogi to follow the story.

I'm not a huge fan of slice of life in general, but this show is just godtier. I hope you keep reacting to it! Since I'm pretty new here, I'm not sure if you only do official subs for the anime you watch, but for 3-gatsu the "Commie subs" version is the ultimate experience IMO. The official subs have some rough edges and mistranslations here and there.

I am a little confused as well but I think the person he played against is an adopted father and as a professional shogi player MC beat him which caused guilt causing him to relate to the TV news, As he was returning kindness with "harm". The family seems to be friends but since he is a pro Shogi player he has no need to work for the shop so he was probably returning the house key and got caught up with their family. Again this is all just things I am thinking after watching episode 1 with you.
