Episode 3 plans
Added 2025-05-13 10:55:55 +0000 UTCHope you all enjoyed Episode 2! With the launch of 0.2 and this Patreon, I'm officially starting work on Episode 3. How's that going to look like? Let's dive in.
So, it's a bit early still to talk about concrete plans for E3, but I can share my goals and the things I want it to have and the themes I want to touch one:
Resolve the Episode 2 cliffhanger: starting in E3, players will be able to play as two very distinct Sams, depending on the choice at the end of E2. The details will be revealed in due time, but this will affect images, descriptions, and available scenes.
More TF content: whereas E2 was more focused on Sam's relationships and establishing the bond between them and the rest of the main cast (Jade, Max, Mr. White, Gabriel, Elena...), E3 will be more Sam-focused and have some more in-depth exploration of their changes and how other people relate to them.
More Season-arc content: the plot with the previous Slayer and Molloch will be present throughout several episodes, culminating with a season finale. E2 was very light on this, so expect more Molloch mayhem in E3.
This is all I can share in terms of narrative. Having said that, there's a couple of other things I want to touch on:
New features: people have requested custom names, different portrait choices, a journal system, and more. I'll have a look at those, evaluate the effort vs. payoff, and probably create a poll for Patreons to vote on which new features I should add. If you've played the game, you know I love adding some flashy CSS (aka style) stuff, so hopefully I can deliver on this in ways that feel cool and unique.
Status updates: I've been very silent in this time between E1 and E2, and that's no good! I want to share status updates, not just to keep patreons in the loop, but also to make myself more accountable to you guys and to focus a bit my development efforts. My initial idea is sharing a status update every two weeks. If this feels too far apart or too often, I'll adjust.
That's it for this post! I'll talk to you soon!

I might regret saying this, but I think being able to choose between 2 or 3 ethnicities would not be super out of scope. But if I'm gonna invest time on it, it should be a top prio to players, that's for sure! Thanks you so much for your support, I hope you find it worth it!

In episode 1, I was thinking a good way to influence that would be with the weapon choices having some impact on Sam's looks / ethnicity. However, that is clearly going to triple the workload for all those pictures or videos that feature a Sam-alike and while that might work in a more sandbox style game that might be broad rather than deep, I can see that it is not going to be feasible in a game with a stronger narrative focus. So I look forward to seeing what choices you can add to the game that will gel with episodic nature of Manslayer!
