Weekly roundup 10/5
Added 2025-10-05 17:47:03 +0000 UTCFun fact I learned from a panelist at Worldcon: Shakespeare was very worried about disinformation.
In Shakespeare's time, a new technology had just become popular: pamphlets. And, as people quickly figured out, you could say anything you wanted on them. People could write out lies, then easily make hundreds of copies of them to sell. And of course, many unscrupulous people were eager to buy this premodern version of clickbait!
So apparently, the 'magazine' was a reaction to this phenomenon. Magazine editors would examine lots of different pamphlets, investigate around, and then comment on contradictions they found and analyze what was out there to try and better get at the truth.
It's always interesting to learn that a problem that seems unique to the modern era--isn't.
Hope everyone's doing well. Here's the chapters that got released this week:

Comments
Shakespeare used his plays to spread disinformation. Much of the supposed "history" in his plays was crown approved propaganda.
