Weekly Update - 252 - 1/6/25

First week of 2025! I don't know what to expect from this year, but I'm hoping for the best.

So I've been sharing a lot from this page with the many shades of Pyre. Thing is, I drew the page with the intent for it to become The Next Page quite soon. Then it got pushed back. Now it's been pushed out of Chapter 12, and, I've started having second thoughts that it belongs in the story at all.

Why? Well, simply put, this page doesn't actually accomplish anything. The page is meant to show how Ash, Ember and Pyre get along when nobody's looking, but is that at all relevant to Kiva's story? No, not really.

I drew it because I'm interested in these characters and I enjoy drawing them, so... this page is pure self-indulgence. It's mostly just Pyre acting like a cat, which is super fun to draw. However, the role of these characters in Kiva's story is quite minor.... I think. So to spend a page fleshing them out seems like a poor choice when I could instead spend a page fleshing out interactions between more important characters or advancing the story. Or saving moments like this for later when these characters have proven themselves to be a bit more relevant to the tale.

Now, I will probably finish this page, because I want to. And when it's done I think I want to share it still, just as some silly bonus content, but I don't think it belongs in my current art queue, certainly not at the front, and I'm not convinced that it belongs in Kiva's story at all.

Comic This Week? I'm gonna say no. I'm giving myself the week "off," but only from the comic. While I'll still be doing some drawing, it normally occupies a MEATY chunk of my week if I hold myself to the deadline. The husband is out of town this week, the house is a disaster and I want to do something about it before he gets back. Also I need to do a lot more work on the TTRPG to get it ready for Alpha, so I'll be doing that as well.

Twitch won the latest character poll! That is to say, the character. MY character, who has been given a fitting nickname that is a common English word and has absolutely nothing to do with any other services or fictional characters who share this common English word as an identifying moniker. All kidding aside, had I remembered the other associations this word has when I created the character, I probably would have gone with a different name. But he's in the story. He's been in the story since he was named back in ~2018/2019, and it's too late to change it now.

Now that we have that established. Who is Twitch? I hear some of you asking. Well, I'm wondering the same! So, let's find out together when I draw him for the first time since ~2018/2019!
