Factorio E2 - Baby's First Factory

I attempt to make something with a semblance of organization. A lot was learned along the way.

I'm having some technical difficulties with Patreon, so this video is just unlisted on YouTube. Ads are turned off, so please let me know if they show up for some reason. In the future, I can both link an unlisted YouTube video and host the same video here. YouTube tells me the origin of all views on unlisted videos, so as long as this is not abused, I will continue giving the option to watch on YouTube.

January Bonus Video 1/4

Factorio E2 - Baby's First Factory

Comments

Indeed, time flies by when playing factorio! I remember playing for the first time with my brother and we almost played all night

Yarno Merckx

Me too, hoping it comes out today

Firebreath

Great Tyler, excited for episode 3 🤞🏻

Jay Louj

episode 3 waiting gang rise up

Kai Christensen

I'm heaps excited for the next one

Jake Clifford

eagerly awaiting episode 3 🤞🏻

Aaron

I'm loving the factorio videos. I've never played it myself so it's fun to watch someone else who hasn't played it work through everything and figure everything out.

AnimatedCupcake

Same boat, happy to be here!

Colton

I've also noticed that Patreon streams video at a lower bitrate than YouTube, so I also prefer YouTube uploads.

Kai Christensen

Glad you decided to also uplaod them on Youtube! I didn't like the patreon player: either fullscreen or in a tiny player...

Ian Cote-Daviau

Have I missed a map ID? I'd love to play along on the same map.

Bill L.

I enjoy watching you piece together how to build your own factory so I don't want to spoil anything for you, but a key to manufacturing is ratios. How many of an item you need made per time interval for each item you want made in an interval. Example you need gears and copper plates to make red science. How long does it take to make 1 red science? How long does it take to make the gears and copper plates necessary? What's the ratio of gears production and copper plates production to reach the desired red science production. Then, how many labs to use that science.

Silent Mayan

Great Video, I could recommend, reading ALL tutorials ASAP Plus if you would not mind loosing steam achievements this mod, so we can see the your playtime always ;) https://mods.factorio.com/mod/EvoGUI

Noel P.

The edits is good. but personally i would prefer to see more of the gameplay, and that would make it less work for the editor, thus maybe making it possible for longer videos? or more often videoes?

ThorHenrik

Jumping from watching Zisteau, a Factorio master, to Tyler is whiplash, but still entertaining.

Amythistfire

Please tell your EDITOR he or she is a genius love seeing what they do in your videos

K. Trades

I've just signed up to see you play factorio, I haven't been this hyped for YouTube content in months <3

Leo Peil

One quick tip for you is that you can daisy chain labs and assemblers, so if you insert plates into one of your assemblers you can also use that assembler with the help of an inserter to distribute plates to the rest of your assemblers

Patrick Nihranz

I wanted to say as well, hit ALT

Pascal Lafreniere

I have so many hours into this game and I love that you're playing it. This game can eat up time like nothing else I have ever played. Quick tip, if you hit ALT it will help tremendously!

Solomon Counsil

when I saw your video explaining the patreon I said to myself no fucking way am I paying for this witht he literally only exception of you playing factorio. here we are

Robert Glenny

One big tip for factory making in the future: Use your info of how long it takes each unit machine to do what it needs to do and sync it up (this is much more helpful later than it is now). The mining, how fast belts move, how long it takes for an arm to move 1 item, how long it takes for assembling machines to make each unit of whatever they're making, etc.

Joe Mamone

mmm, I do quite enjoy your factory's particular flavor of spaghetti. And you've already begun saying 'I need more iron!', you'll prolly find yourself saying that a lot as this goes on... And yes, factorio is a game that's very easy to get yourself lost in. Ahhh, the nights when I look at the clock only to realize in shock that 2AM has rolled around, but, the factory, IT MUST GROW!

Gawain

I agree, the spaghetti is painful, and tutorials make the game so much easier, but It's really inspiring, and even somewhat refreshing for my dummy head to see someone manage to figure things out completely on their own, and find interesting ways to accomplish things with nobody telling them "this is the statistically most efficient way to do things with what you have at this point"

Omegryth

you are backseat gaming it is pretty shitty. He will figure things out as he plays the game and has said several times he does not like backseating. alt-mode is pretty much the only thing he needs to know of because it makes the viewing experience significantly better.

Subtonix

I have never been so satisfied but so craving to get more

Lucas RUNDBERG

It's beautiful that you've not watched a tutorial. It can be painful to watch the spaghetti, but seeing the puzzle-solving brain figure out stuff like belt side management from first principles makes this series uniquely compelling.

pwf

Well, I started playing the game and I can confirm, time does fly by when you are playing... "just some ajustments? no problem, that will be 3 hours sr"

Miguel Souto Costa

Oh the spaghetti of the uninitiated, it is glorious!

Daarcm

Cool video, great editing. Huge props to the team. Great value for the Patreon members Tyler!

Ben Hawkins

Love this game~ trains are *amazing*

Felicia

"It's so awful I love it"-every factorio player rn

Maciej Kowal

I wonder how that thing with the origin works when streaming on a Chromecast etc. I'm for sure doing that to have some bigger screen to enjoy your content. So if anything shows up it might be me? It would be a bummer if that won't work anymore and I have to watch on my PC but I understand your reasoning and it's perfectly fine if YouTube won't mirror the videos. Anyway I'm excited for the series :)

Kevin Hamacher

Just did the subscription thing 2nd episode was cool cant wait to see what else you do to expand the factory (:

NUKE

This is terrible I love it! Non-spoilery tip: Factorio has a lot of built-in tips, really recommend checking those out. Lots of QOL features. Very polished game. Edit: I mean no disrespect not am I being judgmental, I am enjoying your journey as you learn the game

Benoit Ranque

how would someone "abuse" it?

Lazerlord

I love your work. It makes me so happy to watch someone learn Factorio from scratch. It can be a confusing game but stick with it, it's worth it. Thanks for providing many hours of fun with your videos!

Lazerlord

Delete this. The fun of learning factorio is doing it on your own. When you just get spoon fed stuff like this, you lose the adventure.

MTGBot

Lazerlord

This game is all about tearing it all down and rebuilding when you better understand how to do things. There are so many little intricate ways to increase efficiency, so many fun tricks to do with belts. I can't wait to see you uncover them all. Hint: You were on to one of them right at the end there!

Alexander No

It’s so awesome to see you finally playing this game. I have a major quality of life tip for you: press ‘ALT’ on your keyboard or the ‘ALT’ key next to your hotbar ingame, this activates a mode, in which you can see what assembly machines create and what furnaces smelt etc. it really helps out!

Crackedname

So fun to watch someone learn this game from scratch. Interesting to see someone both discover small tricks like side loading underground belts, while at the same time forgetting about long inserters.

StarMealon

Episode 3: revenge of the biters.

Evena Boeckel

The minimap has filter settings, such as pollution, which may be very useful for finding threats.

Samuel Sukovsky

press Alt will help

tim yarjau

I love the Factorio new player experience of 'oh god I need to belt X to Y and there are literally no tiles left'

Patashu

Ah. The fresh smell of spaghetti. And pollution. Love the vids.

bonerowner

I love seeing one of my favorite content creators discover one of my favorite games. As some people have already commented, please press Alt. Also, check out the long handed inserter, it could've helped you solve a lot of your problems.

Ammonium

The first rule of unlisted videos is: don't talk about unlisted videos ;-) Looking forward to watching, thanks!

Aaron

yeah after you realize that its a thing, you tend to keep it on almost all the time

Matthew Hampton

Posting unlisted is a potential security concern sadly, but i agree its much more comfortable to watch that way

BenCat

Thank you for listening to the suggestion of posting unlisted to YouTube. I really do appreciate it

Ben Anderson

Is someone going to tell him about long inserters

Dogdayboy

L-alt

Alex Schwartz

You did it. You became one of only a handful of people on the planet to get me to spend money on something that isn't critically important to me, like food, electricity, videogames, water, etc.

Amplify

There is a setting which allows your machines to show what they're producing without having to open the GUI, I cannot remember how to turn it on though.

Remy Drouant

I hope Tyler remains relatively unspoiled WRT common factory designs. It's pretty interesting to see genuine first look at the game, as well as the growth of a base that looks nothing like what most Factorio content creators make.

Christopher Hinton

USE THE LONG ARMS O_O

hunter k

Can someone help me? How can I open the youtube video on my smartphone? As it isn't a listed video I can't just copy the link into the searchbar. edit: Ok, for anyone wondering, hold down the youtube logo, then on the pop-out with "open in background" and "copy link", go to "open in app" :)

Zamri Thüring

Left-Alt will allow you to see what things in your factory are producing. This helps avoid confusion for viewers and will probably help you keep track of your factory after it grows a lot.

Subtonix

fun video, thank you as always

MU_TTV

yt vids for this is awesome, if you leak ima flip

Gavin Morton

Yup, it is very common for Factorio players to abandon old factories and build new ones.

Vizlox

He’d see it if he read the tips in the bottom left corner. I wonder how high they’ll pile up🤣

Logan

I knew this game would drive you crazy. You want to be efficient, but don’t always know what that looks like because you don’t know what you’ll need in the future. Lol

Megan Pawlak Arts

Btw if you ever do a future playthrough I’d recommend turning on Research Queue in the map settings. It saves a lot of hassle with needing to open the tech tree all the time

Logan

Good video👌

Callum McCready

Its always a joy to see tyler figuring stuff out, i think i usually could not watch someone figure out factorio on their own but tylers wit and humour and the great editing make it work very well

Rosita the Cat

Tyler, I'm going to give you some quality of life tips for this game, no spoilers or anything. Press the Alt key. You'll thank me later. Also the Q key can both clear your hand, but also if you press Q while hovering over an item it will put in your hand a stack of that item if it exists in your inventory. Very useful for quickly dropping another power pole or pipe, etc.

Bailey Galacci

Be careful with playlists and unlisted videos, if there are unlisted and listed videos in a playlist they may as well all be listed. Loving the series so far!

Michael Clasby

Nice. Having it on Youtube is great, I like the player much more + other benefits like keeping track of where I left off.

Jan Brokes

Lezz go

gudbjrn6

Guys, don't abuse it 🤓

Jason Carter

The thumbnail is terrifying

Monabalona

I love the glorious mess of being new to Factorio.

Alexander Wales

Please no one ruin this I like YouTube videos for the Patreon.
