Added 2015-02-25 05:37:33 +0000 UTCHello everyone, I'm sure some of you have seen, either in the news or through posts by many artists and other bloggers, mention of the new VATMOSS tax laws enacted in European government. In simplest form it means that creators/artists with clients and patrons based in European nations must collect all information on those patrons for tax purposes on digital markets and services like Patreon. This means that if you're a patron of mine, and based in EU, then I will need to collect some of your personal information like full legal name and address in order to complete VATMOSS tax forms. This is a huge hamstring on the sole purpose of Patreon and other services, which are meant for people to pledge funds to causes they wish to give to, without the hassle of filing taxes and wading through red tape. Patreon has also gone to saying that they will not comply with VATMOSS, leaving the responsibility of taxes to us artists and content creators. It saddens me to not only lose your support, but to also basically tell you that I can't *accept* your pledge if you're from the EU. So far I don't think this will be a problem as most of you, my current patrons, are US-based (At least judging from your email addresses, which mostly have common western domains like gmail and yahoo). But still, if you are within the EU, I must implore you to cease your support and pull your pledge from this and all other Patreons you support. Hopefully there will come a day when such bureaucracies no longer plague those who simply want to create, and those who simply want to lend support.
