STEP BY STEP // wave sketch

The main thing I want to show with this is that the overall shape and movement is the most important thing when adding detail! If you make sure that the smaller details align with the overall movement, they feel like a part of the shape, rather than distracting from it. And in essence a wave is a very simple shape. 2023-11-09 12:02:52 +0000 UTCNice, I recently did a tsunami piece for a client, pretty much followed Same process… made the breaking wave shapes sharper though, they wanted it to show a huge force engulfing everything. It makes me feel validated I’m on the right track seeing this.

2021-10-26 11:11:10 +0000 UTChey zak! no worries, this is the place to ask! so for your first question, the gradient from step one was created by just selecting an area and using the circular gradient to apply some softer gradations. so in this case, i selected the bottom part of the wave and added a gradient there, then selected the top part separately to add a different gradient there. in procreate, there's no gradient tool so you'd have to draw it in with a brush and then blur it. I’m new to digital paint so I haven’t invested in any of the brushes your use/ recommend but I was having a difficult time trying to find a similar brush on the standard brushes in procreate. Is there a set of brushes that you would recommend from your list for someone who is new to digital art? Do you also have a post/ video explaining how to create a gradient image? Sorry... I know these are super basic/noob questions but thought I’d asked if the answers where here before going to YouTube. 🙈

In step 2, i've got three: the sketch, base color, and foam. same for step 3, and by step 4, i've merged it all together and am working from layer only. hope this helps!!
