Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [589]

Having successfully defeated the Gigantamax Appletun, Calyrex—praised widely for its regal bearing—fully earned the villagers' admiration.

As the villagers' faith poured into Calyrex, its lost strength gradually began returning.

“So, what do you think of my plan now?” August asked Giovanni smugly.

Giovanni merely snorted coldly, saying nothing.

In excellent spirits, August led Calyrex and the villagers onward toward the next destination.

Wherever Calyrex and Ting-Lu passed, every Gigantamax Pokémon was swiftly and decisively defeated.

“Earthquake!”

As a devastating shockwave rippled outward, shaking the entire hillside, a distant Gigantamax Pikachu collapsed under the impact, completely defeated.

“And that wraps things up!” August clapped his hands, satisfied.

At this point, not a single villager in Freezington dared doubt Calyrex’s power anymore.

Watching Calyrex’s majestic figure, the village chief suddenly recalled the old, damaged statue of Calyrex in the village.

“As soon as we get back, I’ll definitely have your statue fully repaired!” the chief swore solemnly. “With the finest materials available!”

The villagers nodded enthusiastically in agreement.

The group returned grandly to Freezington and headed directly for Calyrex’s statue.

And then... they encountered a dirt-covered Zinnia and Mew, alongside a Mudbray—which no one knew from where they’d managed to kidnap for extra clay.

But what really captured everyone’s attention was the appearance of Calyrex’s statue itself.

“I asked you to fix the statue—what exactly did you do?” August stared at the statue, feeling his sanity slipping.

“I was fixing the statue!” Zinnia insisted indignantly. “I specifically repaired it as an exact, one-to-one match with Calyrex!”

Beside her, Mew vigorously nodded in support.

August turned to point directly at Calyrex. “Look carefully at Calyrex’s face, then say that again with a straight face!”

Zinnia’s eyes darted nervously between Calyrex’s large, elegant bud-shaped crown and the… thing she and Mew had sculpted atop the statue, which very much resembled a large lump of poop. Her confidence visibly evaporated.

“That…that’s just a bit of artistic liberty. It was all Mew’s idea!” Zinnia instantly betrayed Mew without hesitation.

Mew’s eyes widened dramatically—she clearly hadn’t expected Zinnia’s sudden betrayal.

August: “…”

Everything finally made sense.

After Mew’s previous drawing incident, August had become painfully aware of the mythical Pokémon’s so-called "artistic talent."

Calyrex’s statue had already been fairly ugly. After Mew’s artistic "improvements," its current state shouldn’t have been surprising.

With a sigh, August picked up Mew and handed her over to Gardevoir.

He stared at the now unrecognizable statue, turning apologetically toward Calyrex. “This statue’s a lost cause now. How about we make you a brand-new one?”

Though Calyrex was somewhat attached to its original statue, it saw August’s sincerity and reluctantly nodded in agreement.

Under August’s direction, villagers quickly cleared a space in the village center.

Ting-Lu then used Earth Power, pulling forth a sizable block of granite from deep beneath the earth.

August immediately called out Mewtwo and explained the situation.

After a single glance at Calyrex, Mewtwo’s psychic spoon transformed into a carving knife. With swift, precise movements, it rapidly shaped the stone into a rough outline of Calyrex astride its legendary steed.

“As expected of Mewtwo!” August deliberately glanced toward Giovanni as he spoke.

Giovanni: “…”

If not for August, Mewtwo would have belonged to him. Him!

Watching Mewtwo skillfully carving away like a master sculptor, the villagers gasped in awe.

Though still incomplete, even this rough outline was leagues ahead of their original carving.

Mew puffed up her chest with pride, looking around at the amazed villagers, as though their admiration belonged to her as well.

At this point, Mewtwo had finished Calyrex’s figure, and at the request of Calyrex and the villagers, began carving a human figure behind Calyrex on the statue.

Although the face wasn’t yet defined, the Mew perched atop his head and the Gardevoir by his side made it obvious who the statue depicted.

Seeing this, August waved his hands frantically. “I just contributed a tiny bit of effort! There’s no need to carve me into the statue!”

“Hypocrite,” Giovanni muttered, staring at August’s barely concealed grin.

But to the villagers, August was the hero who’d first saved them from the Gigantamax Corviknight’s rampage.

To Calyrex, August was the key to regaining its strength.

Apart from Giovanni, everyone else wholeheartedly believed August deserved his spot on the statue.

August summed up Giovanni’s reaction in a single word:

“You’re just jealous!” August grinned. “I can practically smell your jealousy from here.”

Giovanni refused to dignify that remark with a response.

By now, Mewtwo had reached the final detailed touches of the sculpture, yet August still felt something was missing.

He once again summoned Hoopa and had it bring Diancie from the Kanto branch.

Diancie appeared gracefully before him, tilting her head curiously. “August, you called for me?”

Just moments earlier, Diancie had been sitting at home, watching TV dramas with Meloetta, when suddenly she was teleported here without warning.

"Diancie, could you please create some diamond powder for me?"

Upon hearing August's request, Diancie clasped her hands together. A bright flash followed, and shimmering diamond dust gracefully embedded itself into Calyrex’s eyes, the beads around its neck, and the reins in its hands.

Under the sunlight, the diamond powder glittered brilliantly, complementing Mewtwo’s masterful carving of Calyrex.

At once, Calyrex felt a vast surge of faith pouring into its body.

Unconsciously, it floated upward into the air.

It felt overflowing with power; if it could just reclaim its loyal steeds, it would be fully capable of facing Eternatus!

According to the original game’s plot, besides the Reins of Unity, attracting Spectrier and Glastrier required planting Shaderoot Carrots and Iceroot Carrots.

The village chief had already provided some carrot seeds.

“So...we still have to plant carrots?” Zinnia asked doubtfully.

She counted on her fingers; given normal carrot growth cycles, by the time they matured, Eternatus would’ve already destroyed Galar dozens of times.

“Calyrex can instantly mature the carrots, so time isn't an issue—but…” August paused, looking bothered, “it’s just too much trouble.”

Hearing August’s remark, everyone turned their gazes toward him.

Zinnia hesitantly asked, "Then…you mean…?"

"I'll personally convince them!" August declared, standing up confidently. "It'll be easy."

“Easy?”

Calyrex and the villagers shared the same skeptical thought simultaneously.

...

Crown Shrine.

This ancient temple had once served as Calyrex’s home. However, after losing its powers, Calyrex had abandoned the shrine. Now, it had become the dwelling of Calyrex’s former steeds, Glastrier and Spectrier.

“So, this was your home? It looks huge!” Zinnia marveled at the magnificent shrine before adding, “Though it’s still not quite as impressive as Lord Dragon’s Sky Pillar.”

August: “…”

You really didn’t need to tack on that second part after pretending to praise the Crown Shrine…

However, upon learning that Zinnia’s “Lord” was Rayquaza, Calyrex had grown respectful. After all, when Eternatus’s meteor form had threatened Galar, Rayquaza had once lent its aid.

Yet hearing Calyrex’s sincere respect, Zinnia suddenly found herself awkwardly unsure how to respond.

She quickly shifted the topic, “So, how do we find Glastrier and Spectrier? The book says we need carrots to lure them out, but we don’t have any…”

August gazed calmly at the shrine ahead. “Who said anything about luring them?”

As he spoke, he casually tossed out a Poké Ball.

A dazzling flash, and Kyurem emerged, radiating an icy chill that immediately dropped the shrine’s already frigid temperature several degrees lower.

“According to my data, Glastrier and Spectrier fiercely defend their territory and have extremely sharp senses. As soon as they sense a powerful Pokémon intruding…”

Before August even finished speaking, two distinct cries echoed from deep within the shrine, soon followed by a thunderous rush of hooves.

Everyone watched as Spectrier and Glastrier burst from the depths of the Crown Shrine, galloping straight toward them without slowing down—as if determined to ram August’s group directly off their feet.

“Seems your beloved horses don’t recognize you anymore,” August remarked dryly to Calyrex.

“August, stop chatting—they’re about to crash into us!” Zinnia yelled in panic.

Spectrier and Glastrier drew closer by the second, their biting chill and sinister ghostly presence already palpable.

Just before collision—

Kyurem finally moved.

With a swift flap, its wings of pure ice expanded sharply outward like two enormous arms, firmly intercepting Spectrier and Glastrier’s violent charge head-on.

Boom!

The collision unleashed a shockwave that blew away nearby snow and rattled the surrounding trees.

“No need for panic,” August calmly told Zinnia. “Even if Kyurem didn’t stop them, there’s always Gardevoir.”

“If it were Lord Rayquaza in action, I wouldn’t panic at all!” Zinnia stubbornly retorted.

August: “…”

After having their initial charge thwarted, Spectrier and Glastrier warily eyed Kyurem. Behind Kyurem, they finally spotted Calyrex, riding Ting-Lu and standing beside the humans.

Recognizing Calyrex, Spectrier and Glastrier didn’t settle down; instead, their aura intensified, their gazes carrying a peculiar emotion directed at Calyrex.

August followed their stares and noticed Ting-Lu.

A strange expression appeared on his face. “Are they…jealous?”

Perhaps that wasn’t precisely accurate, but from August’s perspective, Spectrier and Glastrier certainly looked jealous of Ting-Lu.

It was probably something like “I can’t believe you’ve found yourself a new steed behind our backs!” jealousy.

Especially when Calyrex urged Ting-Lu forward, their eyes never left Calyrex or Ting-Lu.

Of course, it wasn’t merely jealousy. They probably also felt resentment at Calyrex abandoning them for so many years, along with reluctance to give up their newfound freedom.

In short, after Calyrex called out to them, they didn’t surrender obediently; instead, their stances suggested they wanted a proper fight.

A shadow crossed Calyrex’s eyes. But after a moment, fighting spirit ignited within it as well. If Spectrier and Glastrier refused to rejoin peacefully, then it would simply have to demonstrate its power once more!

A battle seemed imminent.

Yet just then, Kyurem felt thoroughly ignored.

Do all of you think I don’t exist?

Roaring furiously, Kyurem’s icy wings instantly elongated, shooting spikes that transformed into energy threads that wrapped tightly around Spectrier and Glastrier.

Caught off-guard, both horses were tightly bound, dragged forcibly toward Kyurem.

Spectrier and Glastrier struggled fiercely, but even Reshiram and Zekrom, with their base stats of 680, couldn’t easily escape Kyurem’s grip—let alone Spectrier and Glastrier’s 580.

Seeing them struggling so much, Kyurem impatiently unleashed Glaciate.

An icy storm swept over them. Spectrier stiffened instantly, while Glastrier, though Ice-type and slightly more resilient, weakened considerably. Kyurem followed swiftly with a Dragon Pulse, and Glastrier stopped struggling immediately.

When Kyurem finally tossed the defeated steeds down before Calyrex and August, Calyrex stood frozen in shock.

Even when I originally tamed them, it hadn’t been nearly this easy…

August patted Calyrex reassuringly. “Don’t overthink it. Ask if they’re willing to follow you now—if they’re not convinced yet, I’ll let Kyurem continue the negotiations.”

As if cooperating perfectly, Kyurem roared once again.

Spectrier and Glastrier both trembled visibly, hurriedly nodding their willingness to return under Calyrex’s command.

Not at all the epic battle everyone had anticipated.

“See? I told you it would be easy,” August grinned.

Calyrex unconsciously nodded.

“Since your power’s back, come with me to face Eternatus now,” August suggested.

Calyrex nodded again without thinking.

Yet shortly afterward, a worrying thought struck it:

Did August really need its strength to face Eternatus?

Initially, Calyrex assumed it was crucial to the war effort against Eternatus, hence why August had gone out of his way to recruit it.

But now, after witnessing August’s Pokémon—particularly the overwhelmingly powerful Kyurem before it—Calyrex suddenly found itself questioning its own purpose.
