Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [588]

After hearing August's invitation and words of encouragement, Calyrex finally strengthened its resolve, deciding to accompany August on a journey to regain its lost power.

Everyone knew that Calyrex’s strength had two primary components.

One part came from its loyal steed—but now, its steed had abandoned it.

August planned to help Calyrex recover its steed, but that would come later.

For now, August intended to help Calyrex regain the other half of its strength: the faith of the people.

In ancient times, Calyrex was revered by the people of Galar, not only for granting fertile land and abundant harvests, but also for rescuing the region from a catastrophic meteor crisis caused by Eternatus.

However, with the passage of time, these stories faded into mere legend, and Calyrex gradually lost the faith of humanity.

Thus, it had become the frail Pokémon standing before them today.

"So, are we going to help Calyrex find its horse first?" Zinnia raised her hand to ask.

"No," August said decisively. "First, we need to restore the villagers’ faith in Calyrex."

Zinnia immediately frowned at the thought. "Getting modern people to worship a Pokémon—even a legendary one—seems impossible."

After all, not everyone was as deeply devoted to Lord Dragon as she was.

If even Zinnia thought this was a tough task, then it was truly challenging.

But August had a plan of his own: "My plan has two parts."

August raised two fingers.

"First, we have to locate Calyrex’s statue and restore it to its original condition."

"Statue?" Zinnia’s eyes suddenly lit up with realization. "Oh! Do you mean that snowman by the village entrance?"

August: "?"

Seeing August’s confusion, Zinnia laughed nervously. "I saw a broken statue near the trees earlier today, so I used it as the base for my snowman."

As she spoke, Zinnia nervously glanced toward Calyrex.

To her relief, Calyrex didn’t seem upset.

To make amends, she proudly slapped her chest: "Leave fixing the statue to me! I'll definitely restore it to perfection!"

Though August wasn’t entirely convinced by Zinnia’s reliability, he figured even she couldn't mess up something as simple as repairing a statue, so he entrusted the task to her.

"Now, onto the more important part—restoring the villagers' faith in Calyrex." August glanced toward Zinnia thoughtfully. "How about converting your faith to Calyrex? I'm sure Rayquaza won't mind."

In August’s eyes, a single fanatical believer like Zinnia would far outweigh countless casual worshippers. If she switched faith, she alone could fully restore Calyrex’s lost power.

Upon hearing this, Zinnia instantly jumped behind Gardevoir, staring warily at August. "No way! My devotion to Lord Rayquaza lasts until death!"

August’s expression turned regretful.

Since the easiest method wouldn’t work, he’d have to move on to something more complicated.

At August’s command, Gengar produced a whiteboard. Grabbing a marker, August scribbled something briefly, then turned to face Calyrex and Zinnia.

"I call this plan ‘Calyrex’s Idol Debut.’ While it's tough to convert modern people into true believers, we can still gather plenty of fans."

To August, fandom was simply another form of faith.

Zinnia blinked at the whiteboard.

If she hadn't misread it, wasn't the name August had hastily crossed out just now "Gary"?

Could such a simple copy-paste plan really succeed?

Unaware of Zinnia’s inner doubts, August eagerly turned to Calyrex. "Calyrex, can you sing, dance, or rap?"

For the first time, genuine confusion crossed Calyrex’s usually calm expression. "Sing? Dance? Rap?"

It understood the first two, but—what in the world was ‘rap’?

"It's a type of musical performance..." August pulled out his phone to demonstrate, playing a video of the world-famous rapper—legendary soul musician, Ryme.

Listening to Ryme’s passionate performance, Calyrex felt its head swelling uncontrollably, as if the giant bud on its head might bloom from sheer overload.

After watching the video, Calyrex shook its head frantically.

It couldn’t perform anything like that.

"Then what about basketball?" August persisted, mimicking a dribbling action.

Calyrex continued shaking its head.

August sighed deeply. "Looks like the trendy path is a no-go. Traditional methods it is."

He felt a bit disappointed; Calyrex had already been incredibly powerful when fueled only by Galarian faith. He’d wanted to see how powerful Calyrex might become with fans from all over the world.

For some unknown reason, Calyrex felt as though it had narrowly avoided a great disaster.

"Going the traditional route is easy," August continued. "People naturally worship strength. Right now, Freezington Village is troubled by wild Dynamax Pokémon. Once the villagers see you defeating one of these Pokémon, they'll naturally start revering you again, restoring your powers."

Calyrex shook its head again. "I lack the strength to accomplish that right now…"

It had already tried yesterday; in its current weakened state, it couldn't even handle a single Dynamax Pokémon.

"Leave that part to me. I'll find you a temporary partner first!" August reassured Calyrex.

Under Calyrex’s puzzled gaze, August tossed out a Poké Ball, releasing Ting-Lu into the room.

"Until we retrieve your steed, you'll team up with Ting-Lu!" August handed Calyrex the Reins of Unity.

Calyrex exchanged glances with Ting-Lu.

Surprisingly, Ting-Lu wasn't particularly resistant to being ridden. It had already been captured by August, so what difference did being ridden make?

Besides, as one of the Treasures of Ruin, it had originally been a gift presented to kings—Calyrex, in its own right, qualified as a king.

Thus, Ting-Lu accepted the arrangement swiftly.

However, Calyrex hesitated, skeptical about whether this Pokémon, clearly of Dark type, could truly synchronize spiritually with a Psychic-type like itself.

Still, willing to give it a try, Calyrex carefully tied the reins around Ting-Lu’s bronze antlers.

The bud atop Calyrex’s head began glowing faintly, and simultaneously, Ting-Lu’s body also started emitting a gentle light.

—Calyrex (Deer-Riding Form) had officially appeared!

"Perfect!" August applauded enthusiastically. "By the way, if you don’t mind my asking, what's your type now?"

Feeling out its current condition, Calyrex also seemed uncertain about its new typing.

Psychic? Dark? Ground?

Seeing that Calyrex itself couldn't figure it out, August shrugged, saying it wasn’t really important anyway.

After August and Calyrex had busied themselves the entire night, the first rays of dawn began breaking through the sky. Giovanni, whose sleep had been repeatedly disrupted by August’s noisy activity downstairs, dragged himself sleepily into the lobby with a yawn.

Then he froze.

In front of him stood a giant-headed rabbit riding atop a deer-like Pokémon, both staring right back at him.

Giovanni instantly turned around and walked back toward his room.

I must still be asleep. This is definitely a dream.

A few minutes later, Giovanni washed his face and cautiously stepped into the lobby again—only to find the same bizarre sight greeting him.

Giovanni: "......"

What the hell happened here last night...?

...

August’s plan officially began.

Zinnia and Mew set off to clean Calyrex’s statue and search for its missing pieces.

August went to find the village chief.

Under the chief’s puzzled gaze, August asked, "Chief, do you still remember Calyrex?"

"Calyrex? You couldn’t mean..." The chief hesitated, doubtful.

August smiled faintly. "Exactly!"

He stepped aside dramatically, revealing behind him Calyrex, sitting atop Ting-Lu, desperately trying to maintain an aloof, dignified expression.

"Calyrex learned the village was in danger, and has decided to step forward personally to rescue Freezington from the threat of wild Dynamax Pokémon!" August announced grandly.

However, the village chief’s confusion deepened as he stared at Calyrex.

He knew the legend of Calyrex, and if memory served him right, wasn’t the legendary Pokémon supposed to ride a horse?

He scrutinized Ting-Lu closely. No matter how he looked at it, this Pokémon resembled a deer rather than a horse.

Being stared at like this, Calyrex also felt a bit embarrassed.

"You’re mistaken—this is clearly a horse!" August pointed earnestly at Ting-Lu.

"But—" the chief tried to speak again.

August coughed loudly, cutting him off.

Any more questions would be impolite!

"In short, leave the remaining Dynamax Pokémon threatening your village to Calyrex. If any villagers are free, they’re welcome to watch the battle!" August quickly redirected.

Hearing that August intended to solve the wild Dynamax Pokémon crisis, the chief swiftly discarded his doubts.

Whether Calyrex rode a horse or a deer, as long as it could solve the village’s troubles, who cared?

"I’ll inform the villagers immediately!" The chief promptly announced August and Calyrex’s expedition through the village loudspeakers.

Very soon, a crowd gathered outside the chief’s house.

Under everyone’s watchful gaze, Calyrex rode forth upon Ting-Lu, looking every bit the general riding into battle.

August shouted energetically from the side: "With Calyrex here, Freezington’s troubles disappear! With Calyrex here, clear skies draw near!"

Giovanni quietly shifted several steps away, distancing himself from August’s embarrassing display.

Though the villagers found August’s words somewhat strange, they caught the main idea clearly:

This was about getting rid of those Dynamax Pokémon!

Excitedly, the villagers erupted in cheers.

Quickly, the whole procession marched grandly out of the village toward the first target.

Just as they approached the first destination, August’s phone buzzed—it was a message from Zinnia:

[LordRayquaza#1]: The statue’s fixed already!

Back in the village, Zinnia and Mew stared proudly at the statue, now topped with a clay crown they had made, looking almost identical to Calyrex.

Both stood in identical poses, hands on hips, puffed up with pride.

They were truly amazing!

On August’s side, after receiving the news, he immediately asked Calyrex if it felt any changes.

Calyrex raised a hand, sensing carefully. It seemed to have regained a bit of strength—or maybe not.

August: "…"

He’d known Zinnia wasn’t very reliable, but he hadn’t expected her to be this unreliable.

Before he could complain further, their group reached their destination.

In the distance, a Gigantamax Appletun lay sprawled within the forest, syrup-like nectar pouring continuously from its enormous body, filling the air with a sweet aroma.

"Now the stage is yours! Relax—I’ll support you from the side!" August encouraged Calyrex.

He stepped back with the villagers, yielding the stage entirely to Calyrex.

Calyrex’s gaze turned serious as it stared down the Gigantamax Appletun.

Recalling memories of charging into battle alongside Glastrier and Spectrier, it gathered psychic energy, pulled on the reins, and prepared to surge forward as one unified force.

Yet after a moment, it realized it was still standing in place.

Calyrex: "?"

Only then did Ting-Lu react, starting to move forward at its "top speed" toward the Gigantamax Appletun.

"Seems a bit slow..."

"I read the legends about Calyrex—wasn’t it supposed to ride ten thousand miles in a day?"

"Right? Is this really Calyrex?"

Atop Ting-Lu, Calyrex flushed with embarrassment upon hearing the murmurs.

But there was no helping it—Ting-Lu’s speed stat simply wasn’t built for this. It couldn’t go faster even if it wanted to.

Giovanni, standing beside August, chuckled quietly. "Your plan doesn’t seem particularly successful, does it?"

August kept his gaze fixed firmly ahead on Calyrex and Ting-Lu, replying calmly without turning, "Just wait… Here it comes!"

As if on cue, just as Ting-Lu finally approached Appletun, it unleashed a deafening roar. An aura of catastrophic ruin emanated from Ting-Lu’s body, darkening half the sky itself.

Ruination!

Under the stunned gazes of countless villagers—

Before Calyrex and Ting-Lu even physically touched the Appletun, the Gigantamax Pokémon reeled backward as though struck by an invisible force, collapsing heavily onto the ground.

After a brief moment of stunned silence, the villagers erupted into thunderous cheers.

Faith began gathering and concentrating around Calyrex.

Calyrex’s power rose slightly ↑

Having been a seasoned warrior and king, Calyrex immediately capitalized on the sudden opening created by Ting-Lu’s powerful strike. Feeling the fresh surge of strength, it swiftly followed up with its own attack.

Psychic!

An invisible but not particularly strong psychic force slammed into the Gigantamax Appletun, worsening its already severe injuries.

As Appletun struggled to retaliate—

Ting-Lu beneath Calyrex suddenly fired a ripple of dark energy from the bronze vessel atop its head.

Dark Pulse!

The barely recovering Gigantamax Appletun was flipped completely onto its back, incapacitated instantly. Its body quickly shrunk back to normal size.

Rather than leaving immediately after victory, Calyrex rode Ting-Lu gracefully up to the unconscious Appletun.

Extending a hand, Calyrex gently summoned a green glow, swiftly healing the Appletun’s injuries.

"Truly the bearing of a king," the villagers murmured admiringly at the noble display before them.
