A Rider Doesn't Need a Youth Romantic Comedy [6]

Night had fallen, and a vehicle slowly rolled into a fruit processing factory on the outskirts of the city.

Once the car entered, lights immediately illuminated the previously dark space.

A hidden secret base beneath the factory emerged clearly into view.

“The fallen angel has just been designated AO-037 (Abnormal Organism),” the team leader informed Rōma as they stepped out of the vehicle.

“Understood.”

Rōma nodded in acknowledgment.

Behind them, the operatives busied themselves moving Raynare toward the laboratory, while Rōma and the team leader walked through a futuristic underground corridor.

Surveillance cameras dotted every corner along the way, and heavily armed guards stood vigilant, permeating the air with an oppressive sense of militarized tension—clearly signaling the facility’s importance.

Passing through a door equipped with fingerprint and retinal scanners, they entered a spacious room bustling with researchers.

This was the research institute directly subordinate to Chaldea—the Human Order Security Organization.

“Good evening, Dr. Jane. I’ve brought you the fallen angel you requested.”

A mature woman with messy blonde hair slowly raised her head from a stack of paperwork, her eyes filled with confusion.

Who were you again?

Fallen angel? What the heck is that?

Her bewildered expression lasted nearly ten full seconds, during which Rōma patiently waited, showing no sign of impatience. Dr. Jane was always like this: once immersed in her work, she’d completely forget about anything unrelated.

“Ohhh, right, right, that thing!”

Dr. Jane suddenly slapped her forehead, finally recalling her own request.

She had almost forgotten she'd specifically set up a research project regarding this creature, aiming to investigate from a scientific perspective how humanoid beings with physical wings managed stable flight.

“Come on, come on—take me to see it right away!”

Reinvigorated by her recollection, Dr. Jane excitedly grabbed Rōma’s wrist and practically dragged him toward the laboratory.

Rōma felt no emotional reaction whatsoever despite being pulled along by a mature, beautiful woman—primarily because Dr. Jane’s sense of aesthetics was uniquely bizarre, making it utterly impossible for a normal person to feel anything special towards her.

“Where’s that fallen angel?”

Upon entering the lab, Dr. Jane immediately turned to Rōma, impatient.

“Ah, it's still undergoing preliminary checks by the operatives outside. Should be here shortly.”

Even though the fallen angel had been securely captured, the institute would still conduct thorough inspections before officially beginning research.

“I see.”

Dr. Jane nodded, then sat down idly on an operating table, looking bored.

Rōma’s eyelid twitched involuntarily upon seeing the severely battered surface of the table.

Without a doubt, the dents were the handiwork of various entities forcibly strapped down by Dr. Jane herself.

Around the operating table stood several massive cylindrical jars, filled with various limbs and organs—some human, some clearly not.

“By the way,” Dr. Jane suddenly spoke up while flipping through reports on her tablet, “haven't you considered recruiting that Aki-something boy into the organization?”

While reviewing Raynare’s data, she had noticed this wasn't the first time that boy had encountered abnormal phenomena. It was practically confirmed he had a special constitution.

Usually, people with such traits would be fast-tracked into Chaldea.

“He doesn’t measure up.”

Rōma shook his head decisively.

“Setting aside his special constitution, Aki Tomoya has virtually nothing else worthwhile.”

“Although his initiative is decent, unplanned initiative is just recklessness.”

“And recklessness is precisely the trait we must avoid.”

To be fair, as a high school student, Tomoya didn’t have any glaring flaws. While he had his minor issues, none were particularly problematic.

The primary reason he hadn't been brought into the organization was because his head was filled entirely with unrealistic fantasies.

He simultaneously showed reluctance toward responsibility and a certain misplaced arrogance.

Truthfully, this was a common trait among those who had recently discovered their powers—suddenly realizing they possessed special abilities naturally inflated their egos a bit.

If Chaldea had truly lacked personnel, such faults could easily be overlooked and slowly corrected later.

But at present, although the organization was busy, it was far from desperate.

As Chaldea’s core subordinate entity, the research institute never lacked talented recruits.

If Tomoya had shown exceptional initiative and cleverness—like the previous high schooler who independently uncovered traces of the organization, albeit with Chaldea intentionally lowering its guard—he certainly would’ve been recruited immediately.

After all, that individual had proven his capabilities.

Tomoya, however, possessed neither outstanding strengths nor serious flaws.

While his abnormal-attracting constitution wasn't especially common, it wasn't exactly rare either.

It was best to leave someone like Tomoya to develop freely outside, merely assigning a few operatives to quietly observe from afar.

A short while later, the fallen angel Dr. Jane requested finally arrived.

“Well, then, I'll take my leave.”

“Sure, sure. Go on.”

Too excited to even look up, Dr. Jane eagerly began securing the fallen angel to the operating table.

With that, Rōma quietly exited the laboratory. The tasks that followed were no longer his responsibility.

Though Rōma had undergone extensive training in Chaldea’s specialized knowledge and considered himself quite knowledgeable, certain tasks were best left to professionals.

In fact, as he interacted with experts renowned in their respective fields, he often felt embarrassingly illiterate.

Just as Rōma was about to leave the institute and head home, a clear, bell-like voice suddenly echoed behind him:

“Where’s my pillow?”

A young girl with long, softly gradient lavender hair stared directly at Rōma, her gaze piercing.

She appeared exactly like a princess stepping straight from a fairy tale:

Fair skin, delicately arched eyebrows, and beneath them, a pair of captivating eyes sparkling like stars.

In fact, she actually was a princess.

“Um... Princess Syalis…”

Rōma groaned internally, pressing his palm to his forehead.

How could I forget about this ancestor’s request?!

Although Princess Syalis looked harmlessly adorable, she was genuinely an ancestor-level character within Chaldea.

When it came to obtaining good-quality sleep, there was nothing she wouldn't do.

At some point, an unscrupulous researcher had jokingly convinced her that certain items from contained anomalies had sleep-enhancing effects.

As a result, Princess Syalis had methodically plucked valuable materials from every single anomalous entity in the base.

Rumor had it one particularly defiant anomaly had been mercilessly beaten by the princess for an entire afternoon. By the time researchers intervened, the anomaly had been reduced to a trembling wreck huddled silently in a corner. It remained docile for the next full week.

“Where’s my pillow?”

Princess Syalis repeated herself, taking a step closer threateningly.

She had already decided: if this guy hadn’t brought back the fallen angel as promised, she’d personally shave all his hair off.

“In... inside.”

Hesitating for only a moment, Rōma turned and pointed toward the laboratory behind him.

Sorry, Doctor…

“Got it!”

Princess Syalis nodded joyfully, pulling a massive pair of scissors from behind her back as she marched straight into the lab.

Seconds later, an anguished scream echoed through the hallway:

“My precious specimen!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!”
