Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [570]

“Codename?”

August rubbed his chin. He honestly hadn’t thought about that before.

But it wasn’t hard for him at all. After a brief pause, August confidently declared:

“We’ll call it Project Rainbow!”

And without another word, he stepped into Hoopa’s portal, leaving behind a puzzled Gold scratching his head.

Project Rainbow? What does that mean—does it have some deeper significance?

···

Kanto Branch Headquarters.

Returning, August immediately spotted Cogita, who was holding Eevee while watching a TV drama. But strangely, he noticed Cogita and Eevee looking at him oddly.

Cogita gently stroked Eevee’s head, giving it an encouraging nod.

“Vee!”

Eevee stood up in Cogita’s lap, psyching itself up.

At first, Eevee looked determined and fearless. But the closer it got to August, the more its perked-up ears drooped downward.

By the time Eevee reached August’s feet, it had shrunk into a fluffy ball of nervousness.

August stared down in confusion.

Eevee was clearly caught in an intense internal struggle. After hesitating for a long moment, it finally seemed to reach a decision.

Suddenly, Eevee stretched out its paw, gave August’s leg the gentlest, softest tap possible—and then immediately turned tail and bolted straight back into Cogita’s arms, hiding its face and leaving only its fluffy tail sticking out, trembling anxiously.

“Huh?”

August was utterly bewildered by Eevee’s inexplicable behavior.

Completely puzzled, he glanced toward Cogita, but she just smiled mysteriously without giving any explanation.

August could only carry his confusion down to the basement of Kanto Branch Headquarters.

Only after August disappeared into the basement did Cogita sigh helplessly, gently patting Eevee, still hiding in her arms.

“You can stop hiding. August’s gone.”

Hearing Cogita’s reassurance, Eevee cautiously peeked out again.

Cogita looked helplessly at Eevee’s cowardly display. “Was this how you planned to get revenge for me?”

Eevee instantly looked guilty, but quickly puffed up its chest again, insisting that this was just a minor slip-up—next time, it would definitely help Cogita get even.

Looking at Eevee’s earnest expression—so strikingly similar to August’s own—Cogita shook her head. “Forget it. Clearly, I can’t count on you.”

She rose from the sofa, stretching gracefully.

“I haven’t been out in ages. Time to get some fresh air,” she said, scooping Eevee into her arms and beckoning toward Hoopa.

Seeing Cogita, Hoopa obediently opened a portal, sending her directly to Galar.

Those still waiting for August at the hotel were surprised to see a portal suddenly opening, wondering why August returned so quickly.

Instead, Cogita emerged from the portal.

“Cogita!? Why are you here?” Sabrina asked in surprise.

“And Eevee too!”

Smiling, Sabrina waved toward Eevee, who immediately leaped into her arms and happily rubbed its face against hers.

Cogita smiled gently. “I was feeling bored staying home, so I decided to come take a look…”

Glancing around the room, Cogita’s gaze finally landed on Zacian, resting quietly in the corner.

Initially, Zacian paid no attention to her. But once Cogita’s eyes settled on Zacian, the Pokémon suddenly stood up.

“Grrr~”

Normally reserved and aloof, Zacian now proactively approached Cogita, gently lowering its head to rub affectionately against her legs.

“Looks like Zacian really likes you,” Blue noted.

Cogita softly stroked Zacian’s head, smiling warmly. “Perhaps Pokémon just tend to find me approachable...”

···

The basement remained exactly as always.

Perhaps they’d gotten used to being locked up for so long—when August entered again, everyone except Maxie and Archie seemed completely indifferent.

Disappointed by their lukewarm reception, August remarked sourly, “Hey, aren’t you all at least a little happy to see me?”

“What, you want me to clap and welcome you?” Giovanni replied dryly without even lifting his gaze from his newspaper.

“...?”

Wait—which one of us is supposed to be the prisoner here?

August suddenly felt Giovanni was getting a bit too comfortable in his cell.

But considering Giovanni was already his defeated prisoner, August couldn’t be bothered arguing—especially since he had more important things to do.

Clearing his throat, August announced grandly, “This time, I’ve come to inform you of something very important!”

At these words, even Giovanni, who’d appeared entirely uninterested before, perked up his ears to hear what warranted such a formal announcement.

“I’ve officially signed you all up for the World Championships!”

August’s opening statement instantly dropped like a bombshell.

In an instant, everyone in the basement was staring at August with utter disbelief.

Though August had asked earlier if anyone was interested in the World Championships, they’d all assumed he was joking. After all, what International Police agent would seriously enter prisoners into an official Pokémon League tournament?

They’d never taken it seriously.

But now August was telling them—he’d meant every word!

Enjoying their shocked expressions, August continued smoothly, “No need for shock or disbelief. The World Championship Committee has already given preliminary approval to the list I submitted.”

Their expressions grew even stranger.

If August wanted to mess around, fine—but had the League Council gone completely insane as well, agreeing to such ridiculous nonsense?

“You’re serious about this?” Giovanni asked skeptically.

August bristled at Giovanni’s doubt. “Do I look like the kind of person who’d joke around about something this important?”

Giovanni simply chuckled softly, choosing not to respond.

Do you really have zero self-awareness?

Ignoring Giovanni’s smug reaction, August coughed lightly and went on: “The person who achieves the highest ranking will receive a sentence-reduction bonus gift personally awarded by me!”

The words “sentence reduction” immediately captured the attention of everyone in the prison—even Lysandre, who’d been spacing out until now, snapped his gaze toward August.

“The list?” Maxie demanded eagerly, eyes burning. “Who’s eligible to compete?”

“Pryce,” August declared, turning toward Pryce. As his name was announced, the cell door swung open. Pryce gave August a calm, courteous nod.

“Cyrus.”

Cyrus walked out slowly, his rigid expression revealing nothing about his thoughts.

“Maxie, Archie.”

Maxie and Archie visibly relaxed upon hearing their names, then swaggered out smugly, already assuming their victory was assured. But when they spotted Pryce, they hastily toned down their arrogance.

August continued reading names calmly. “Lysandre.”

Straightening his suit carefully, Lysandre strode confidently out of his cell.

“And finally...” August deliberately dragged out the suspense before finally announcing, “Giovanni!”

Giovanni simply scoffed dismissively at August’s melodramatic antics.

But Ghetsis, noticing everyone but himself was called, finally couldn’t maintain his composure.

Was he deliberately excluded?

“What about me?” Ghetsis asked sharply.

“You?” August glanced at him and shook his head. “You’re too low-tier. Banned from competing!”

“Everyone else here either tried to conquer or destroy the world,” August explained flatly. “Someone whose greatest ambition was just founding some little country—frankly, you don’t deserve to stand among us.”

Without sparing another glance for the now-fuming Ghetsis, August turned back to Pryce and the others.

“We’re all civilized people here, so I’ll make two points clear: First, don’t even think about escaping. No matter where you run on this planet, Deoxys can instantly track you down, and nobody here wants their sentence doubled, do they? Second, kindly follow the League’s rules and show restraint—please avoid directly attacking opposing trainers during matches.”

“Those are basically the main points. If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know!”

“Now, I hereby announce: Project Rainbow—the Prison Kings Cup of the Pokémon World Championships—is officially underway!”

“Everyone, follow me now to retrieve your Pokémon!”

···

Even though they already knew August’s plan, when Pryce, Giovanni, and the others actually appeared alongside him in the hotel lobby—

Everyone from the Kanto Branch still failed to keep their faces straight.

They collectively observed a three-second silence in their hearts for Chairman Rose.

August was briefly surprised to see Cogita had joined them in Galar, but quickly resumed his usual expression, addressing everyone present: “Time to choose your World Championship partners!”

This idea of pairing up had only just occurred to August.

Though he had Deoxys and Hoopa’s assurances that nobody could escape, it was safer to assign each person a partner.

This setup would not only allow close monitoring but also let the Kanto Branch members learn valuable lessons, boosting their own abilities.

Hearing August’s words, both sides carefully sized each other up.

Giovanni’s gaze immediately locked onto his son, Silver. However, faced with Giovanni’s stare, Silver pointedly looked away, turning instead toward Pryce.

Pryce gave Silver a gentle nod in return.

Soon enough, everyone spontaneously formed their teams:

The girls, for their part, showed zero interest in World Championship rankings—clearly treating this purely as a shopping and sightseeing trip. August suspected Sabrina had persuaded them into prioritizing shopping over the competition entirely.

“It seems your son doesn’t want to team up with you,” August whispered provocatively next to Giovanni.

Giovanni’s expression instantly darkened.

“Since no one else wants to partner with you, I suppose I'll make the sacrifice,” August added nonchalantly.

Giovanni’s face grew even darker.

If anything could be worse than not partnering with his own son, it was undoubtedly having August at his side!

Just as all the pairings were finalized, the door opened, and a dusty, exhausted Gary stumbled inside.

When he saw the scene before him, Gary froze completely.

Pryce? Giovanni?

When the heck did August bring them all here!?

“What exactly happened while I was gone…?” Gary asked weakly.

“Oh, nothing much. We just split up into teams,” August answered casually.

Hearing that August had assigned a special “mentor” for everyone except himself, Gary’s eyes instantly reddened with indignation.

“And what about me?” Gary pointed desperately at himself. “I still haven’t been paired yet!”

“Oh, I did forget about you…” August rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “Well, in that case, I suppose you can join me and Giovanni.”

“August, why does your tone sound so reluctant!? Am I really that terrible!?” Gary shouted.

“Well, not terribly awful—at least stronger than Ash!”

Hearing August’s words, Gary’s face flushed deep red with embarrassment.

A bright, cheerful atmosphere filled the room.

...

Once August had brought Pryce and the others from the Kanto Branch to the Galar region, he hadn’t bothered hiding their presence.

Very soon, news of their arrival exploded across the headlines.

Online discussions erupted instantly.

But rather than worry about the potential dangers of having former criminal leaders compete—most netizens trusted the Pokémon League enough to assume they had everything under control—everyone instead began heatedly debating who’d win this year’s Championships.

Initially, after August’s apparent nerfing and Leon’s buff, around 60% believed Leon would win, 30% backed Cynthia, while only 10% still supported August.

However, with Pryce, Giovanni, and the others now openly participating, the previously clear predictions suddenly became extremely uncertain.

Some confidently supported Pryce:

After all, the Pokémon League had publicly released footage of Pryce single-handedly taking on Giovanni and Team Rocket at Mahogany Town using only a Delibird and a Swinub—freezing an entire forest effortlessly. The scene alone was terrifying enough to sway many.

Others backed Giovanni:

He had been Team Rocket’s leader after all, and though he’d once lost to Pryce, August himself had publicly admitted Giovanni was the most troublesome criminal leader he’d ever faced. (August: Did I really say that?)

Trainers from Kalos vocally supported Lysandre, while those from Sinnoh placed their bets on Cyrus.

Notably, no trainers from Hoenn voiced support for Maxie or Archie… because many of them had personally experienced their homes being flooded!

As the internet descended into fierce arguments—

Chairman Rose at League HQ also received the news.

Sitting at his desk reading through the intelligence reports, Rose’s head began to throb painfully.

Too many unpredictable elements!

August alone had already been a headache, but at least he played within the rules, remaining somewhat manageable.

But now, with this whole crew of even less predictable factors thrown into the mix, Rose’s expression darkened to the extreme.

Wasn’t August afraid of things spiraling out of control completely!?

At that very moment, Rose’s phone suddenly rang.

Oleana’s voice came through clearly: “Chairman, Champion Leon has arrived. Should I let him in?”

Rose took a deep breath, calmed himself, and shifted his expression to a gentle smile before responding kindly, “Yes, please show him in!”

Leon was Galar’s strongest trainer, after all. It was about time Rose had a talk with him.

Moments later, the office door swung open.

Wearing his iconic sponsor-covered cape, Leon strode confidently into the room.

“Leon!” Rose greeted warmly, smiling.
