Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [564]

“Someone’s cursing me!”
He looked around warily, but of course found nothing.
After a moment of thought, August reached his conclusion.
“It must be Rose’s doing!”
Hearing this, Sabrina seriously suspected that one day if August tripped while walking, he’d still insist Rose had buried a trap in his path.
The deeper they went, the heavier the mist grew.
Wild Pokémon grew scarcer and scarcer.
Blue yawned and leaned against August’s shoulder. “So sleepy…”
Zinnia’s reaction was more straightforward—she simply collapsed into sleep.
Luckily, August caught her by the arm, or else her chest would have hit the ground flat.
“So this is where the name ‘Slumbering Weald’ comes from?” Sabrina asked. She poked at Zinnia’s cheek, only to find her utterly dead to the world, not a flicker of response.
August swept his gaze around. “We’ve already been discovered.”
As he spoke, he gave the Mew dozing on his head a shake, meaning for it to raise a psychic shield. But Mew didn’t stir at all. Only when August plucked it down did he realize—it had fallen fast asleep at some point.
Sleeping even deeper than Zinnia.
August: “…”
Helpless, he released Mewtwo.
The moment it appeared, Mewtwo’s eyes locked on something deeper in the forest.
Before August could even issue a command, Mewtwo suddenly slashed forward with its psychic spoon.
Whoosh
The spoon’s swing split the fog apart, peeling it back to reveal a clear passage.
Boom!
With a thunderous crash, Mewtwo’s spoon slammed against a shadow.
The shockwave blasted the haze aside.
Sabrina and Blue looked over—what stood there was a Pokémon with red fur as its main coat, but with blue fur trailing down mane and tail, blocking Mewtwo’s strike with its own body.
Blue: “So that’s what you were just talking about…”
“Zamazenta,” August said the name aloud.
One of the heroes who had once saved Galar.
Zamazenta leapt backward, widening the distance. Though itself a Legendary Pokémon, as a Fighting-type it had just taken a full psychic blow from Mewtwo—it didn’t feel good.
Seeing Zamazenta retreat on its own, Mewtwo, whose main task was to guard August, didn’t press the attack. It only kept its eyes locked firmly on it.
At that moment, August stepped forward and greeted it. “Hello, Zamazenta, hero of Galar.”
“But why are you alone? Where’s your sister?” He glanced about, but saw no sign of Zacian.
Zamazenta’s eyes fixed on him, wary.
To it, this human called August had barged into its domain, ignored its drowsing mist, and unleashed a strange Pokémon that knocked it back in a single strike.
Danger—that was what it felt from August.
Especially since he had spoken its name, and even its sister’s. That alone made its vigilance rise sharply.
“Grrr…”
A low rumble rolled from its throat—a warning for August to leave the Slumbering Weald at once.
“Come on, I didn’t even do anything, and you’re chasing me out? That’s way too stingy,” August protested with an innocent look. “It’s not like I’m some villain.”
But Zamazenta remained wary, unmoved.
Off to the side, Sabrina watched with great interest.
It was the first time she had ever seen August’s so-called “Pokémon succubus” charm fail him. His usual affinity with Pokémon seemed to have no effect on Zamazenta at all.
Seeing how determined it was to drive him out, August sighed and turned to leave with Blue and Sabrina.
“We’re just leaving?” Sabrina asked, doubtful.
That wasn’t like August at all.
“What do you take me for?” August shrugged. “If the host doesn’t welcome us, what’s the point of staying?”
It wasn’t that Sabrina didn’t believe him—just that his track record didn’t make that sound convincing in the least.
And sure enough, just as the thought crossed her mind, August added:
“Which means I can’t tell them about Eternatus being revived soon.”
At those words, the ears of Zamazenta, who had only just relaxed at the sight of them leaving, shot straight up.
Twin beams of light flared from its eyes, locking on August.
Eternatus… awakening!?
Hadn’t that monster been defeated, sealed away? Thousands of years had passed—how could it suddenly be returning?
Out of the corner of his eye, August caught Zamazenta’s reaction. A faint smile tugged at his lips.
But he didn’t elaborate. Instead, he really did turn to go, leading Blue and the others away.
One… two… three—
The count had barely reached three in August’s head when a cry rang out from behind.
“Woooooh!”
Though it didn’t speak human words, August’s [Power of Viridian] made the meaning plain—Zamazenta was asking him to wait.
His words had hooked its heart.
As one of the main forces who had fought Eternatus three thousand years ago, nothing could weigh on it more heavily than that name.
But now, August didn’t hurry.
Feigning ignorance of Pokémon speech, he kept on walking.
That made Zamazenta anxious.
If August really left now, and its sister learned of it later, she’d never let it off.
So Zamazenta threw caution aside—even its dignity—and dashed in front of August, blocking his path under Mewtwo’s watchful glare.
August’s eyes widened in mock outrage. “Not allowed to visit, not allowed to leave—don’t you think that’s a bit tyrannical?”
The performance was flawless, natural as breathing.
Zamazenta actually looked embarrassed.
Sabrina: “…”
Sometimes she really did admire August—how did he manage to lie without ever breaking, not even a blink?
Blue, however, remained calm.
In this, she and August were alike.
Under Zamazenta’s repeated pleading, August finally let himself be “persuaded” to stay.
Zamazenta, in turn, was visibly relieved.
“But this isn’t the place for talking. Do you have somewhere more private?” August asked.
At once, Zamazenta led the way.
August exchanged a glance with Sabrina.
It ought to thank me, really.
Before she could reply, Zamazenta turned back and let out another low cry.
It was—without question—a thank you to August for bringing them word of Eternatus’s return.
