Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [549]
Added 2025-08-12 12:02:33 +0000 UTCKoga glanced at Lance, then at August.
He finally understood—these two had come specifically to torment him.
Could you act like decent human beings for once?
My vacation…
The thought of his precious days off slipping away made his heart bleed.
“Look on the bright side,” August said, patting Koga on the shoulder. “Isn’t solving problems for the League more meaningful than taking a holiday?”
Beside him, Lance nodded in solemn agreement.
Koga: “…Heh.”
Easy for you to say—it’s not your vacation.
But what was done was done; he couldn’t just turn back. Since he was here, Koga could only accept reality.
“Let’s go.”
He could only hope they’d deal with this Tyranitar quickly, so he could return to enjoying what was left of his break.
...
Mt. Silver.
August had returned to Mt. Silver. This time, the path up the mountain was dotted with League staff, stringing up barricade tape to block would-be climbers.
One trainer, stopped on his way up, was arguing loudly with a staffer.
“Why won’t you let me up?!” he demanded.
“Because there’s been a Tyranitar sighted in the mountains!” the staffer replied. “We’ve been ordered to keep all trainers off the mountain until the problem is resolved—for your safety.”
“I came here to catch that Tyranitar!”
The staffer gave him a look full of disbelief.
“What’s with that tone? I’m a strong trainer—I’ve got six badges!”
The two guards exchanged glances and broke into laughter.
“Pfft!”
The laughter immediately made the trainer bristle. “You looking down on me?”
“Not at all… we just remembered something funny,” one of the staffers said.
“You—!” the trainer’s face flushed red.
The other guard couldn’t resist adding, “Six badges? Before becoming League officers, both of us earned eight and competed in the Silver Conference. Do you hear us calling ourselves powerful trainers?”
“You should just—”
He didn’t finish. Both men suddenly straightened and saluted.
The baffled trainer heard a voice behind him.
“Good work.”
Turning, his eyes went wide.
“Poison-type Elite Koga… and last season’s strongest Champion, August!”
August: “?”
‘Strongest Champion’—I like. ‘Last season’s’—I don’t.
Koga was already laughing himself breathless.
“Hahaha… last season’s strongest Champion…”
August’s face darkened. “…”
The trainer realized he’d slipped up. Sure, everyone said that online, but online was one thing—you didn’t say it to the man’s face.
Fortunately for him, August ignored it and spoke to the staff. “You can withdraw now. We’ll handle Mt. Silver from here.”
They were only too happy to oblige. No one wanted to spend days in this wilderness, playing cat-and-mouse with trainers trying to sneak past.
Once they were gone, August turned to Koga.
“Enough laughing. Time to climb.”
Koga coughed hard, forcing his grin down. This trip had already been worth it—just for that one line about “last season’s Champion.”
Still, work was work.
Pulling out his phone, Koga brought up a map. “According to sightings, Tyranitar’s been active in these areas…”
Nearby, the rebuffed trainer perked up his ears.
August ignored him, scanning the marked spots. “All on the mountain’s outskirts. Looks like it’s searching for something. Don’t tell me its kid’s gone missing again?”
Last time, he’d rescued Tyranitar’s child from poachers.
Could it be that the poor thing was in trouble yet again? Only one way to know—go up and see.
“Let’s move.”
As August and Koga headed for the first site, the would-be trainer tried to sneak after them—
—only for the ground to vanish beneath him.
After a dizzying whirl, he came to his senses to find himself… in Goldenrod City.
A hard pinch proved it was no dream. “What the hell just happened?!”
But soon, he rallied.
Tyranitar!
Even if he couldn’t catch it, seeing August in action would be worth it.
...
Meanwhile, on the mountain.
Hoopa zipped back to August, flashing an “OK” gesture.
August ruffled its head.
Koga was about to speak when a roar echoed from up ahead.
They traded a glance and hurried toward it.
Breaking through a stand of trees, they found a lakeshore—
—and the source of the noise.
An Ursaring, cub tucked behind it, stood facing down their target: Tyranitar.
Ursaring’s eyes blazed as it shielded its Teddiursa. Tyranitar looked… awkward. Almost pleading.
“What are they saying?” Koga asked, knowing August could understand Pokémon speech.
“…Are you here to assist, or just for me to act as your interpreter?” August muttered.
Still, he explained, “Tyranitar’s asking if Ursaring’s seen its kid.”
“And?”
“That’s the strange part. Ursaring says it’s told him plenty of times—it saw Larvitar leave with a very strange Pokémon, and if Tyranitar wants it back, it should look for that Pokémon instead of bothering them.”
Even as August spoke, Ursaring’s patience finally snapped.
It slammed a paw into its chest and fired a [Hyper Beam] that gouged a deep trench before Tyranitar.
Faced with this final warning, Tyranitar froze, then turned away, shoulders slumping.
“Follow it,” August said.
Emerging from the brush, they ignored Ursaring’s wary glare and trailed Tyranitar.
August didn’t approach immediately. They shadowed it, watching its search.
Many Pokémon in the forest had seen Larvitar being lured away by “a strange Pokémon.”
From their descriptions, August pieced together the picture—
Pink. Very cute. Hopped when it walked…
That sounds… familiar.
He plucked Mew from his head, looking into her half-asleep face, and shook his head.
In this state, she was more likely to get kidnapped herself than abduct anyone else.
Mew, still drowsy, was plopped back atop his head and promptly went back to sleep.
Tyranitar’s search ended in failure; exhausted, it returned to its cave.
As it settled down to rest, a noise made it lift its head sharply, only to see August and Koga.
It remembered August. Last time, he’d saved both it and its child from poachers.
“Long time no see, Tyranitar,” August said.
Hope flared in its eyes.
A deep roar.
August raised a hand to calm it. “I know what you mean. I’m here to help you.”
He was the Pokémon’s savior—once nicknamed “The Guardian” back in his ranger days, two-and-a-half years running as “Most Beloved by Pokémon.”
Once it had calmed, he asked, “Do you have anything with Larvitar’s scent on it?”
Tyranitar thought, then rummaged in the cave and dragged out a massive [Fire Stone] with a chunk gnawed off.
August estimated it could be cut into fifty or sixty standard [Fire Stones].
“That’s… extravagant,” Koga murmured.
Most trainers scrimped and saved for one evolution stone. Here, it was just a teething toy.
August didn’t bat an eye—Mt. Silver was Tyranitar’s turf, and as a Rock/Ground type, digging up evolution stones was child’s play.
He tossed out Deoxys’s Poké Ball.
“Deoxys, help find this Pokémon.”
After hearing Tyranitar’s description of Larvitar, Deoxys touched a tentacle to the [Fire Stone]. Psychic energy flared, its eyes glowing blue.
Seconds later, the glow faded, and it passed the location to August via telepathy.
August’s expression turned… odd.
He pulled Mew down again.
“Mew!”
Roused twice in quick succession, she gave a grumpy little hum.
“Don’t sleep. Tell me—did you lure Larvitar away?”
She froze, plans of extorting a cake for forgiveness forgotten.
“Mew?”
Larvitar? What Larvitar?
“Don’t play dumb. If it wasn’t you, why did Deoxys just find Larvitar at the World Tree?”
Now she was truly baffled.
The World Tree was her home.
Could she have… kidnapped Larvitar without realizing?
She racked her brain, but found nothing.
It really wasn’t me!
Seeing her face, August believed her.
He turned to Tyranitar. “Either way, we’ll know once we check the World Tree.”
Koga: “Wait—you’re not bringing Tyranitar out of Mt. Silver, are you? And where even is this World Tree?”
“Not far. Just northeast of Kanto.”
Koga’s eyes bulged. “You call that not far?!”
“We’ll be there in no time.” August snapped his fingers.
Hoopa tossed a golden ring into the air. With a gentle push, August sent Koga through—before he could react, the cave vanished, replaced by blazing daylight.
Even a ninja needed several seconds to adjust.
When he did, he stared up at the towering World Tree—it was his first time seeing it.
Behind him, August stepped through with Mew, Deoxys, and Tyranitar.
Hoopa followed last, slipping the ring back onto its arm.
“What a beautiful place! Hoopa likes it here!” it cheered, breathing in the fresh air.
The World Tree was the kind of place that could lift anyone’s spirits.
August looked toward Mew.
Only to see her frozen in place, as if struck by lightning.
“What’s wrong?”
The last time she’d made that face… was the last time.
Mew clenched her tiny fists. “Mew!”
Someone stole my house while I was gone!
She was furious. And the consequences… would be severe.
