Mushoku Tensei: Sword, Magic Hats, and the Romance System [120]
Added 2025-07-26 10:46:59 +0000 UTCInside the classroom—
Three small heads—red, white, and brown—huddled together, all staring down at the “class schedule” on the table.
Morning:
Swordsmanship — Ghislaine
Afternoon:
Rest
Evening:
Etiquette — Edna
That was the schedule before today.
Now, new entries had been added alongside the original list.
Additions:
Offensive Magic — Rudeus Greyrat
Water God Style Swordsmanship — Allen
Healing Magic — SylphietteArithmetic — TBD
Reading & Writing — TBD
History — TBD
Standing beside them, Edna looked on kindly at Allen.
He, in turn, was watching the scene unfold before him—a spectacle, really. Eris was repeatedly drawing an arrow from Rudeus’s name to Sylphy’s, only for Rudeus to snatch the pen back and rewrite his own name in its place. The cycle continued endlessly.
Tensions were high, and the young lady's patience was clearly wearing thin.
Her raised brows, clenched fists, restless feet tapping the floor, and the pen creaking under her grip all betrayed her simmering fury.
But Rudy was far too engrossed in the fight to notice. At this point, he might as well have had “death” written across his forehead.
“We’ve added too many instructors at once,” Edna said calmly. “I’m concerned about how we’ll fit everything in. If we pack all the lessons into the afternoon, it’ll be completely unmanageable. Besides, the young master conveyed yesterday that although you’re technically teachers, you’re all still quite young. As such, I’ll still be in charge of etiquette lessons. …Are you listening?”
“I am. I’m just a bit worried someone might get beaten to death.”
“...?”
“Don’t mind me. Please go on.”
“So at present, in the strictest sense, the only actual instructors are myself and Ghislaine. Therefore, I’d like you to help coordinate the new schedule. At the very least, all etiquette classes will require full attendance.”
Allen blinked, then cast a glance toward Ghislaine, who was standing beside them with her usual deadpan expression.
Though she stood next to Edna and Allen, her gaze was fixed with keen interest on Eris’s hand.
Her face was intensely focused.
As if she were trying to determine when the young lady would “draw her sword.”
She might not be the type to enjoy chaos outright, but in some ways, she was even more devious than those who did.
Troublemakers simply liked watching things go wrong—Ghislaine, on the other hand, wanted to see Rudy die—no, she wanted to see how much Eris’s swordsmanship had improved.
Allen blinked and looked back at Edna.
“One.”
“Pardon?”
“There’s only one teacher here. Ghislaine needs to be enrolled in reading and writing—as a student. Same for arithmetic. So technically, that only leaves you.”
Edna blinked in surprise and glanced at Ghislaine—who was nearly twice her size.
Hearing this, Ghislaine looked a bit taken aback as well. She turned toward the two of them—only to hear Edna’s rather supportive voice:
“...That makes sense.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Allen grabbed Eris’s raised fist with one hand and, with the other, pulled over a chair. He gestured for Edna to sit across the table, then sat down himself and spread the schedule paper in front of him, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
Rudy tried to sit down at Allen’s right—
Only for Eris to switch from fist to claw and drag him away.
“You—!”
He glanced at Eris, now firmly planted in the chair, raising her eyebrows defiantly at him.
“What? You got a problem with that?”
Rudy opened his mouth to protest—then thought better of it.
This was the Boreas estate. She was the Boreas heiress. He was just a hired tutor—and the one she liked the least.
If he got booted out of here, going back to the village alone would definitely earn him a round of mocking from Paul.
Even though Allen likely wouldn’t let that happen.
Still… based on Allen’s attitude yesterday, he seemed keen to avoid any drama tied to this “household.” Best not to make things harder for him.
“…Well played,” Rudy muttered, turning to sit on Allen’s other side.
But just as he settled in, Sylphy offered a sweet “Sorry, Rudy~,” and with a gust of wind magic, gently pushed both him and his chair to the opposite side of the table—directly next to Edna.
She made it look effortless.
Because she’d used Wind Magic.
Rudy blinked, staring dumbfounded at Sylphy.
She gave him a sheepish smile.
“Sorry, Rudy. I wanted to sit on that side. Is that okay?”
He nodded instinctively.
His daze wasn’t due to being pushed—Sylphy clinging to Allen wasn’t anything new.
No, the reason was—
Something had changed in Sylphy overnight.
In the past, her gaze had always been glued to Allen. But when he looked back at her, unless it was about something serious, she’d always shy away, ears twitching as she avoided his eyes.
And when making requests—if it was something just between her and Rudy, she behaved like a normal person. But if it involved Allen, she became visibly flustered and hesitant, especially after being brought to Roa. Her body language always spoke louder than her words.
But now?
From breakfast this morning to the current lesson planning, Sylphy’s eyes had been fixed on the task at hand—not on Allen.
In the midst of Rudy’s thoughts, three different voices and the scratch of pens on paper floated from across the table.
Allen, pen in hand, said, “Alright, first let’s lock in etiquette class in the evenings—it’s required for everyone. Swordsmanship and magic are daily training subjects, so we’ll place those in the afternoons, before and after teatime. Mornings, when everyone’s more alert, we’ll divide into two blocks for reading/writing and arithmetic.”
“What?! I don’t wanna learn reading and arithmetic!” Eris shot back, eyebrows raised in protest.
“Denied,” Allen replied flatly, not even looking up.
“Huh?”
“Reading and arithmetic are very important, Eris. Why don’t you try it first? You’re so talented—I’m sure you’ll do great.” Sylphy turned to her with a gentle smile.
“…Fine!” Eris, clearly pleased by the praise, crossed her arms and nodded enthusiastically.
“But if we do it this way, there won’t be room for history class. Maybe we should alternate etiquette and history in the evenings—two days for etiquette, one for history,” Allen suggested.
“That might affect my pay…” Edna said, her voice trailing off.
“I can give my share of the pay to Edna-sensei,” Sylphy said sincerely. “We’re the reason your schedule’s getting cut, after all. And two gold coins is more than I really need…”
“No need,” Allen said without lifting his head. “From what I understand, the pay is monthly. A few fewer lessons won’t change that.”
“Ah… I see.”
Rudy blinked.
He finally understood what had changed about Sylphy.
Whether it was the beastgirls lining up this morning, Eris’s provocations, or Edna’s comment about salary—
In the past, Sylphy would’ve stayed quiet, waiting for Allen to take the lead and solve everything.
But now—
She was stepping in. Addressing things before they became Allen’s problems.
Which meant—
Whatever was bothering Allen yesterday, Sylphy had noticed it too.
And overnight, it had clearly impacted her in some way.
Enough to prompt this shift in behavior.
Clack.
The sound of a pen being set down snapped Rudy out of his thoughts.
He blinked, and in his line of sight—
Allen had already finished drafting the new “class schedule.”
He slid it forward for everyone to see.
Rudy shook his head, clearing his mind, and looked down at the sheet.
And then—
His face froze.
Morning:
Arithmetic — Rudeus Greyrat
Reading & Writing — Rudeus GreyratAfternoon:
Magic — Rudeus / Sylphiette
Swordsmanship — Ghislaine / AllenEvening:
Etiquette — Edna
History — Rudeus Greyrat
He stared blankly at his name plastered beside Arithmetic, Reading & Writing, and History, then looked up in disbelief at Allen—
Only to find him smiling, watching the contrasting reactions on Ghislaine and Eris’s faces with barely concealed amusement.
Teaching literacy and math… in a house full of illiterate sword freaks?
If Roxy were here, this kind of job would’ve been hers, no question.
But she wasn’t.
And since this was clearly a challenge—
Allen had graciously passed it along to his dear brother-in-arms.
How very reasonable.
