Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [513]

Nimbasa City, Nimbasa Gym.

August had just witnessed a heated argument between a father and daughter about whether she should become a Pokémon Trainer.

Bianca’s father believed being a Trainer was too dangerous and was urging her to give up the idea and return home.

Bianca, however, was determined to pursue her dream.

Just as the argument reached a stalemate, August spoke up: “Actually, becoming a Trainer isn’t really that dangerous.”

“You are?” Bianca’s father asked, turning toward him. Clearly, he didn’t recognize August.

Gary started: “The person in front of you is—”

Before he could finish, August gently interrupted him with a smile. “Just an ordinary League employee.”

Hearing this, Bianca’s father frowned.

“You say being a Trainer isn't dangerous...”

“According to the League’s official statistics, the number of registered rookie Trainers killed or missing due to Pokémon encounters last year was at an all-time low—around 0.003%. Statistically, that’s lower than the odds of a car accident.”

“So, the idea that Trainer equals danger doesn’t hold true.”

August’s words were clear and well-supported. He even pulled up the League’s public report, leaving Bianca’s father momentarily speechless.

Bianca shot August a grateful look.

But her father wasn’t fully convinced. “Even so, there’s still risk…”

In the father's face, August saw genuine concern for his daughter. But…

“Flowers grown in a greenhouse can’t become strong. Besides, traveling as a Trainer is your daughter’s dream. Sir, surely you don’t want your daughter drifting through life aimlessly because she couldn’t follow her dream?”

Bianca vigorously nodded along, feeling August was practically speaking her heart. He understood her perfectly.

Bianca’s father struggled visibly, torn between concern for her safety and respecting her dream.

Sensing the timing was right, August revealed his real intention:

“If you're still worried about your daughter's safety, how about letting her join my department? We provide comprehensive training from scratch, a clear career path, high salary, paid vacation, travel reimbursement, and even guaranteed resurrection via time reversal in the unlikely event of an accident.”

Bianca’s father nearly hurt his neck from the abrupt shift. Staring blankly at August’s smiling face, he asked reflexively, “Which department is that…?”

“International Police, Kanto branch. August, head of department.”

At the mention of the name "August," realization finally dawned on Bianca’s father.

The Pokémon World Champion, August!

Why would someone like him personally invite his daughter…?

Seemingly reading his confusion, August explained, “It was Black’s recommendation—he recently joined us too.”

But contrary to August’s expectation, his words backfired spectacularly. Hearing Black’s name, Bianca’s father’s face darkened instantly. “Black, that little punk! And that Cheren kid too! They’re the ones who corrupted my daughter!”

“Where is that brat?!”

August: “…”

Ultimately, Bianca’s father agreed to let her join the International Police. For one thing, August’s identity as a World Champion lent credibility. Secondly, he knew he couldn’t prevent Bianca from becoming a Trainer anyway. Rather than let her face danger alone, joining the International Police at least provided some security.

“Thank you so much, Mr. August!”

After her father left, Bianca thanked August sincerely.

Watching Bianca, Gary shook his head and slapped his thigh. Another naive young girl had fallen into August’s clutches. It reminded Gary painfully of his own recruitment into the International Police…

Ah, those bitter memories.

“What’s the matter, Gary? Any complaints?” August asked, narrowing his eyes suspiciously.

“Haha! Just a mosquito! I was swatting mosquitoes!” Gary hastily covered.

Bianca watched Gary’s strange behavior, silently labeling him a "weird senior" in her mind.

August quickly added Bianca into their group chat.

Unable to hold back her curiosity, Bianca asked hesitantly, “Um, Mr. August, you said Black recommended me…”

“Oh, I made that up,” August replied nonchalantly.

“Eh?” Bianca froze, dumbfounded.

She couldn’t believe he’d just casually invented that—but felt relief when she spotted Black’s name in the group chat. Otherwise, she might've thought she'd been scammed.

August then gently reminded her: “Weren’t you here to challenge the Gym?”

“Oh! Right!” Bianca snapped back to reality, fumbling to find her Poké Balls from her bag. Her father's interruption had completely made her forget the reason she’d come.

Watching Bianca struggle, Gary doubted whether she could become a competent International Police officer.

Hopefully not another Zinnia…

He glanced at Zinnia in the corner, carefully polishing her Poké Balls. Zinnia caught his odd stare, utterly confused by his expression.

Finally, Bianca found her Poké Ball. “Miss Elesa, I'm ready for my Gym challenge!”

Elesa smiled, glanced briefly at August, and nodded.

...

Half an hour later…

“Joltik is unable to battle! Bianca is the winner!”

At the referee’s announcement, Bianca cheered joyfully, barely clinching victory with her Litwick.

Watching Bianca happily accept her Gym Badge from Elesa, Gary shook his head dramatically. “Such blatant favoritism…”

Elesa’s throwing the match was too obvious—no, she'd practically thrown the entire ocean.

It just proved that Pokémon battles weren’t just about strength but also about social connections. Back when he competed in the Indigo League, he'd fought tooth-and-nail for every badge—especially since Sabrina and Erika had deliberately toughened their battles on August’s request.

Gary couldn't help admiring his past self.

Just as he sank into nostalgia, a sudden loud explosion sounded outside the Gym.

“What was that…?”

Everyone turned toward the sound.

Caitlin closed her eyes, using Psychic senses, then snapped them open in alarm. “It’s coming from Driftveil City’s direction…”

Elesa quickly received confirmation, her expression grim: “The Driftveil Drawbridge linking Nimbasa and Driftveil exploded during routine maintenance. Fortunately, it was dinner hour, so only a few workers were lightly injured…”

August exchanged a glance with Caitlin, silently sharing their suspicions.

Driftveil City? Isn’t that a bit too convenient?

...

The Driftveil Drawbridge, west of Nimbasa City, was an essential route connecting Nimbasa and Driftveil.

Now, August’s group stood before its shattered remains.

The massive cables had snapped entirely, the bridge severed at the center—half still attached to the shore, half submerged beneath the sea.

“How does a perfectly fine bridge suddenly collapse?” Zinnia muttered incredulously, eyeing the overwhelmed repair crews.

“It’s obviously Team Plasma’s doing!” Gary declared confidently, clearly following August’s influence.

August nodded calmly. “From my intel, Team Plasma’s planning something big in Driftveil City. Destroying the bridge isolates Driftveil and prevents reinforcements.”

Elesa paled. “Then we should immediately warn Clay!”

“No need to worry,” August reassured her. “My team is already in Driftveil. Clay’s prepared.”

“They’re desperate enough to destroy bridges now—Plasma's panicking,” he added thoughtfully.

“Then what should we do?” Elesa asked. “Should we use Flying Pokémon and head over immediately?”

August shook his head. “No need. I think the bridge can still be salvaged.”

Elesa stared blankly at the destroyed bridge, thinking August’s suggestion absurd. Bianca, too, looked skeptical.

Only Gary and Zinnia believed August implicitly—if he said it could be saved, it definitely could.

August turned to Elesa. “Can you have the workers step back a bit?”

Elesa didn’t understand, but followed his instructions. Soon, the curious workers watched expectantly from a distance.

In full view, August beckoned to Hoopa. Loving attention, Hoopa puffed out its chest proudly. “Hoopa is strongest!”

It threw a golden ring skyward, which expanded rapidly.

A blue figure slowly emerged from the portal.

“What is…?”

“What Pokémon is that!?”

Everyone stared in awe at Dialga’s sudden appearance. Even without knowing its identity, its power was unmistakable.

Ignoring the astonished crowd, August addressed Dialga: “Dialga, restore that bridge to its state from ten days ago.”

Dialga, disappointed that it wasn’t summoned to battle Reshiram and Zekrom, reluctantly obeyed. The gem on its chest shone brilliantly.

Everyone watched, awestruck, as time rewound. The submerged bridge floated upward, neatly reconnecting itself and returning intact to its previous form.

“A miracle!” whispered the stunned workers.

Even Elesa and Caitlin were speechless, never mind Bianca.

Only Gary rolled his eyes. August had done it again…

After sending a sulky Dialga back to Kanto, August calmly informed the stunned engineers: “The bridge should be fine now.”

Awed, the supervisor approached eagerly. “Could we name this bridge after that Pokémon?”

“Name it after Dialga?” August hesitated, amused.

This was Unova—territory of Reshiram and Zekrom. Naming the bridge after Dialga could provoke them, especially if they won their revival battle.

Still, seeing their enthusiasm, August relented, deciding any complaints could wait until Reshiram and Zekrom actually returned.

After this commotion, August resolved to depart immediately for Driftveil.

He’d like to see which fool dared provoke him like this.
