Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [487]

Dealing with Team Plasma had always been part of August’s plans.

After all, he’d long ago reserved a spot in the Kanto Division’s basement especially for Colress. So, in a way, Headquarters’ new assignment aligned perfectly with his own intentions.

But first, he needed to decide who’d join him on this mission to Unova.

“I’m going!” Gary eagerly volunteered.

The recent appearance of Diamond and Regigigas had put enormous pressure on Gary. If he wanted to maintain his status as the Kanto Division’s Number Two, he urgently needed to boost his strength!

The quickest way to encounter Legendary Pokémon was obviously to stick with August.

Wherever August went, the spawn rate for Legendary Pokémon shot straight up↑↑

Next was Zinnia, determined not to miss out again after her previous mistake. This time, she was absolutely sticking to August, and thus to Lord Rayquaza, all the way to Unova!

And after that… there was nobody else.

Lusamine was returning soon, so Platinum and Lillie had to stay behind to meet her.

Cogita had no interest in Team Plasma whatsoever.

Silver had to stay to keep watch over Giovanni.

And as for Gold… his arm still hadn’t fully healed.

“Anyone else?”

August glanced expectantly at Blue and Sabrina.

He’d fully expected both women to immediately insist on coming, yet surprisingly, neither showed any interest at all.

Something was definitely off. Very off.

“Blue?” August asked pointedly.

Blue shrugged lightly. “It's almost year-end, and we've only spent a third of our annual budget. Remember what you said? ‘If we don’t spend it all this year, we won’t get a budget next year.’ I need to supervise everyone’s spending.”

August thought back carefully and realized he actually had said that once.

But… did spending money really need supervision?

After a brief consideration, he decided it actually did—especially given the astronomical budget allocated to the Kanto Division. Without oversight, there was simply no way they could spend it all.

“And Sabrina?” August looked toward Sabrina, puzzled.

Shouldn't Sabrina and Blue be competing against each other?

Now Blue wasn’t going, wasn’t this the perfect opportunity for Sabrina?

But instead…

Under August’s astonished gaze, Sabrina grabbed Blue’s arm decisively. “I’m staying with Blue to supervise the Kanto Division’s budget spending!”

Watching their display of sisterly solidarity, August’s mind filled with question marks.

Things were definitely deviating from his expectations…

Blue and Sabrina had genuinely reconciled, instead of remaining fake friends as he'd assumed.

Bad!

Really bad!

If Blue and Sabrina were truly united now, that meant no more exploiting their rivalry to slack off—and the target of their unified front was obvious!

Looking at the alliance forming between Blue and Sabrina, August had to admit he felt a slight flicker of panic—though only a slight one, of course.

Maintaining a perfectly composed expression, he stroked Eevee’s fur thoughtfully. “Well, since neither of you is coming, I’ll have to ask Caitlin to help me out temporarily.”

After all, Unova was Caitlin’s territory.

The instant he said this, he felt two pairs of slightly panicked eyes fix upon him.

The corner of August’s mouth twitched upward subtly.

Eevee, nestled comfortably in his arms, had no clue what was going on but still eagerly nodded as though it understood everything perfectly.

...

In the end, Sabrina and Blue still didn’t join August’s mission to Unova.

It would seem too petty of them if they changed their minds immediately after August’s casual remark.

Instead, they sought out one of the only two companions traveling with August.

Zinnia was dragged aside right after the meeting ended. Listening to Sabrina and Blue’s whispered request—to keep an eye on any female trainers in Unova getting suspiciously close to August—Zinnia’s eyes widened in surprise.

Whoa, what's this? Sounds exciting…

Zinnia’s gaze darted rapidly between August, Blue, and Sabrina.

After carefully laying out their instructions, Blue quietly watched Zinnia leave and then whispered anxiously to Sabrina, “Do you think we can really trust her?”

Sabrina hesitated. “Probably…maybe, hopefully?”

Zinnia might look like a dummy… okay, she didn’t just look like one; she was a dummy.

But surely even someone as clueless as Zinnia could handle something simple like observing a person and reporting back, right?

Their expectations weren’t particularly high—just basic surveillance was enough!

Watching August, Gary, and Zinnia leave together, Sabrina silently reassured herself.

“Now then—” Blue started seriously.

“Now it’s time to figure out how to spend two-thirds of our annual budget in just one month!” Blue declared solemnly.

Sabrina nodded gravely. This was truly a daunting task!

...

Once outside the Kanto Division headquarters, August casually asked Zinnia, “What did Sabrina and Blue say to you just now?”

Zinnia immediately grew wary, eyes narrowed cautiously.

“Don’t even ask! I won’t tell you a thing!” Zinnia proclaimed heroically, acting as though she'd sooner die than betray their trust.

August raised an eyebrow skeptically. “Really? Somehow I doubt that.”

He pulled out Rayquaza’s Pokéball and dangled it meaningfully in front of her face, the implication crystal-clear.

Zinnia’s jaw dropped at August’s blatant bribery attempt. She hadn’t expected August to stoop so low!

But… she had promised Sabrina and Blue…

“My lips are sealed! Even if you threaten me with Lord Rayquaza, I won’t breathe a word…”

“Threaten?” August feigned surprise. “Who said anything about threats? I was just wondering whether I should lend you Rayquaza for this mission, considering how important our task in Unova will—”

Before he could even finish speaking, Zinnia blurted out hurriedly, “Sabrina and Blue asked me to keep an eye on any female trainers who approach you too closely in Unova, and then report back to them!”

Gary, standing quietly to the side: “…”

Your ‘sealed lips’ lasted about three seconds, huh?

August simply smiled knowingly.

He’d already guessed as much; questioning Zinnia was just to confirm his suspicions.

Now that he had his answer…

August smiled slightly and tossed Rayquaza’s Pokéball into Zinnia’s eagerly waiting hands. “Rayquaza is yours temporarily. You understand what you should do, right?”

Zinnia embraced the Pokéball like a priceless treasure, nodding vigorously. “My lips are sealed tighter than ever!”

Gary: “…”

So that’s what you meant by sealed lips, huh…

August nodded approvingly.

Though he truly had no intention of flirting with any female trainers in Unova, he was more than satisfied with Zinnia’s response.
